By the end of this your page will be live in the theme you chose. Publishing takes under a minute. You need the Atlas Page Builder app embed switched on for that theme, and you should know which theme you are publishing into before you start, because publishing replaces the existing page for that product.
In this article:
Before you publish
Two things to check.
The app embed. Atlas Page Builder must be active on the theme you are publishing into. Your dashboard's Theme extensions card shows this for your published theme. If it is off, publishing is blocked with Enable Atlas in your theme to publish.
Your billing allowance. Publishing is what makes a page count towards your usage. A draft costs nothing; a published page counts once, permanently, for that billing cycle. See What counts as a published page for billing.
Step 1: Open the publish panel
In the Atlas editor, select Publish pages. From a preview screen the button may read Import & edit in Shopify instead. Both do the same thing.
The panel lists Pages to be published so you can confirm you are publishing what you meant to, which matters most after a full store build.
Step 2: Choose the theme
Under Publishing to: select the theme. Every theme on your store is available, not only the live one.
ℹ️ Publishing into a theme that is not live is a good way to review a page on a real storefront before customers see it. The page will not be visible to anyone until you publish that theme in Shopify. See Publishing to a theme that isn't live.
Step 3: Read what will be replaced
Atlas states exactly what publishing does. For a full store:
This will replace the current home page and product pages with the same products on the selected theme.
For product pages only:
This will replace product pages with the same products on the selected theme.
⚠️ Publishing replaces the existing page for the same product on that theme. If you have hand-edited that product's page in the Shopify theme editor, those edits are replaced. Duplicate the theme first if you need to keep them.
Read the theme name in the panel one more time before continuing. Publishing to the wrong theme is the most common avoidable mistake here, and the fix is to republish to the right one and then restore the original page on the wrong one.
Step 4: Publish
Select Publish. Atlas shows Publishing to {theme} and This should only take a moment.
Behind the scenes it uploads the template files, creates the theme sections, publishes the page, and finalises. On a slow store this takes a little longer than a moment, which is normal.
Confirming it worked
Success shows Import successful, with the confirmation:
Everything was imported correctly. You can now customize your theme further or go to the Atlas dashboard.
Two buttons follow: Go to Atlas dashboard and Go to theme customizer.
To be certain, check the storefront:
Open your store and navigate to the product.
Confirm you are seeing the Atlas page rather than your theme's original.
Check it on a phone as well as a desktop.
The row for that page in your dashboard now shows the Published badge.
If the page is published but does not appear, see Why doesn't my published page appear on my store?
Publishing again later
The Publish again action on any page row reopens the last step of the build flow for that page: the publish screen, with the Theme colors panel on the left. Pick a palette if you want to change it, then publish the same page to your theme again.
Use it when:
You edited the page in Atlas and want the changes live
The page renders oddly, since republishing moves it onto the current version of the Atlas page assets
You published to the wrong theme and want to publish to the right one
ℹ️ Publishing again does not bill you twice. A page counts once towards your published pages allowance, no matter how many times you republish it.
If publishing fails
What you see | What it means | What to do |
| The app embed is off for that theme | Select |
| The publish did not complete in time | Try again. Check your pages list first in case it actually finished. |
| A general failure | Try again once |
| A general failure on a multi-page publish | Try again, or publish the pages individually |
| The publish job was lost | Start the publish again |
| Your theme cannot hold more blocks | See the dedicated article below |
| Trial page cap reached | Upgrade, or delete an unpublished draft and publish a different page |
For the block limit, see "Your theme has reached Shopify's 300-block limit".
