What Atlas does not do

The boundaries of the app. Atlas does not give you a theme, source or ship products, create your Shopify discounts, or manage your subscriptions.

Written by Eddie Lavandera

Atlas builds and publishes pages, and adds bundle and cart offers to your store. It does not give you a theme, source or ship your products, write your Shopify discounts for you, or run your subscriptions. Knowing where Atlas stops saves a lot of time, because several of the most common support questions turn out to be about something Atlas was never doing.

In this article:

Atlas does not give you a theme

Atlas generates pages and publishes them into a Shopify theme you already have. It does not create, import or install a theme.

When you use the full store tool, Atlas builds a home page and product pages and adds them to the theme you select. It does not replace your theme, and it does not touch your live storefront until you publish. Creating a store with Atlas does not immediately replace your live store or theme. That only happens if you choose to publish it.

⚠️ As of February 25, 2026, Atlas no longer generates or imports themes. If you have the Atlas theme installed from before that date, it keeps working and nothing changes for you. It is not available for new installs.

If you need a theme, choose one from the Shopify Theme Store and let Atlas build pages into it.

Atlas does not source, stock or ship products

Atlas can read a product from a URL on AliExpress, Amazon, Alibaba, Etsy, Shopify or another site, and use what it finds to write a page and create a product in your Shopify catalog. That is where it stops.

Atlas does not:

  • place orders with a supplier

  • hold inventory or update stock levels for you

  • ship anything, or handle returns

  • negotiate prices or manage supplier relationships

Fulfillment stays entirely in Shopify and with whatever supplier or fulfillment app you use.

Atlas does not create every discount for you

This one causes real problems, so be precise about which discounts Atlas owns and which it does not.

Atlas creates and applies these automatically:

  • Bundle offer discounts. Each active bundle offer creates a Shopify automatic discount, applied at checkout with no code needed.

  • Cart drawer offer discounts, applied the same way.

You create these yourself in Shopify:

  • The discount behind a cart drawer reward progress bar. Atlas shows the bar and counts the customer towards your threshold, but the actual free shipping or discount has to exist as an automatic discount in your Shopify admin. If it does not, the bar will promise something the customer never receives.

  • Any promo code you want customers to type into the cart.

⚠️ If you set up a free shipping progress bar without creating the matching automatic discount in Shopify, customers will reach the threshold and still be charged for shipping. See Creating the discounts behind your reward bar.

Atlas also cannot exceed Shopify's limits. A store can hold 25 automatic discounts in total, and every active bundle offer uses one.

Atlas does not manage subscriptions

Atlas can display subscription options inside a bundle, and can let customers upgrade a cart item to a subscription. In both cases Atlas is only showing selling plans that already exist.

Atlas does not create, price, or manage subscription plans. Those are set up in a subscription app such as Shopify Subscriptions or Recharge. A product with no selling plan will show no subscription option in Atlas, and the fix is in the subscription app rather than in Atlas.

The same applies to your own Atlas subscription: it is billed through Shopify, so charges, invoices and payment methods are handled by Shopify rather than by Atlas.

Atlas does not replace Shopify's analytics

Atlas reports on what Atlas is doing: pages, bundle offers, and the cart drawer. Its numbers are deliberately not the same as Shopify's, for two reasons.

Added revenue is incremental, not gross. Bundler revenue and cart upsell revenue measure the increase in average order value from customers who took an offer, compared with customers who did not. They are not the total value of orders containing a bundle.

Atlas excludes some orders entirely. Test orders, cash on delivery orders, and orders that were refunded, voided or never paid are left out of Atlas revenue, because counting them would inflate what Atlas takes credit for.

Shopify's reports remain the source of truth for your actual sales. See Why don't my Atlas revenue numbers match Shopify?

What Atlas does control

To keep the picture balanced, these are the things Atlas is genuinely responsible for, and where support can help:

  • the copy, layout and images on the pages it generates

  • publishing those pages into the theme you select

  • bundle offers, their pricing, and the automatic discounts behind them

  • the cart drawer, its modules, and the offers inside it

  • the analytics Atlas shows for those three areas

  • your Atlas subscription and its usage charges
