The Syllabus Generator is a flexible AI tool that helps educators create polished, comprehensive course syllabi to share with students and caregivers.

Whether you're planning for ELA, Science, Math, or any other subject, this tool helps you organize your course details into a clear, student-ready format in minutes.

What Can the Syllabus Generator Do?

The Syllabus Generator:

  • Builds a professional syllabus based on your input and uploaded content

  • Organizes essential course components like objectives, grading policy, and materials

  • Supports optional sections such as communication preferences and classroom policies

  • Allows file uploads for faster, more detailed syllabus creation

  • Saves time and ensures consistency across your classes

This tool is perfect for back-to-school preparation, mid-year course launches, or curriculum updates.

Using the Tool

  1. Start by selecting the Grade.

  2. Then enter the Subject of your course.

  3. Next, type a short overview of what your course covers in the Course Description box.

    • For example: This course introduces students to narrative and expository writing, grammar, and classic and contemporary literature.

  4. List the Course Objectives and Standards that your course will address. Be as specific as possible to help the AI create an accurate syllabus.

    • For example: Students will analyze literary elements, develop structured essays, and meet Virginia SOL standards for reading comprehension.

  5. Type, paste, or upload a Course Outline.

  6. If you’d like, include the Readings (books, articles, or materials) your students will read throughout the course.

    • For example: Because of Winn-Dixie, selected nonfiction articles, poetry by Langston Hughes

  7. If applicable, provide a list of Required Materials students will need to be successful in your class.

    • For example: 1-inch binder, highlighters, headphones, lined notebook

  8. Add your Grading Policy so students and caregivers understand how performance is evaluated.

    • For example: 40% tests, 30% assignments, 20% classwork, 10% participation

  9. Share your Classroom Policies, including behavior, attendance, and late work guidelines.

    • For example: Be respectful, come prepared, and turn in work on time. Late assignments may receive partial credit.

  10. In the Communication box, include how students and families can contact you and when you're available for questions or conferences.

    • For example: Reach me via email at jsmith@school.org. I am available for conferences Monday–Thursday after school.

  11. If there’s anything else you'd like to communicate—such as homework routines or technology use—you can add that under Additional Information.
Example: Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday and should be turned in the following day.

  12. When you're ready, click Generate and the AI will create a full syllabus for your review and final edits.

Tip! The more details you include—especially about standards, expectations, and materials—the more accurate and tailored your syllabus will be. You can also request tone adjustments (e.g., “Make it student-friendly”).

What’s Next?

  • Review your generated syllabus for accuracy and personalization.

  • Use HMH Assist to refine language, clarify sections, or translate it into another language.

  • Copy and paste the finished syllabus into your LMS, print format, or welcome packet.
