Walkability

Walkability is available as an add-on to help you break down large audiences based on density of households on the audiences that you want to target. These audiences can then be brought over to the survey tool across multiple surveys. Please contact your account manager or add 'Walkability' to your subscription through the Billing Center.

Create a Walkability Audience

Walkability begins in Search > Basic by creating your audience. This is the group of individuals that you want to target. To get the most out of the Walkability tool, this audience should consist of at least several thousand individuals. The tool can also support several million records for campaigns on a larger scale (statewide, nationwide).

Save the audience as you normally would by selecting 'Save' from the bottom action bar. Name the search something you'll remember later. Once saved, select Add > Walkability.

A notification will appear on the left to confirm that the audience has moved to Walkability.

Access Walkability

Walkability is available in Dashboards > Walkability. Organizations will be given the permissions to access the tool, but individual users require set up as well. When signing up initially, please indicate which users need access. If future users need access, please contact support with their user information to get them enabled.

Use Walkability

Once you're in the tool, you'll be presented with a nationwide map and a filtering tool at the top of the screen. This is where you'll choose your organization, state, the search you created, a region, and how you want to define the cluster.

  • Universe: Only searches that you have already shared from the Search tool will appear here.

  • Region: You'll be presented with different geography types depending on your search. First choose an example such as 'County' or 'CD' and use the secondary drop down box to filter down further.

  • Clusters: Choose how you want your clusters to display (by density, zip code, or drawing it out). You can play around with these prior to exporting.

Click 'Submit' to see your geography and clusters.

Clusters

Toggle cluster types next to the submit button. You can see different cluster options once you've hit 'Submit'.

Cluster by Density

A cluster by density will show you the denses clusters within the regions that you defined (in this example, VA-CD-01):

These audiences will be less than 15,000 targets so they can be applied to surveys. You can also view additional information such as the distribution or classification (high, med, low).

46.2% of this geography has high density, while 39.7% has low.

Click on a cluster to see an even further breakdown of targets, households, area, and density.

Cluster by Zip

Cluster by Zip will break down the geography by zip code. You can see an overview of the targets and households that correspond to letter and color. Learn more about each cluster by reviewing distribution, classification, or by clicking on a cluster.

User Defined Cluster

The user defined cluster is drawn by you. Clusters show on the map to give a sense of where the population centers are. As you zoom in, the clusters get smaller and change color. Clusters of 100+ are orange, 10-99 are yellow, and 9 or fewer people show as green.

A pencil tool appears in the top left when you're in 'User Defined Cluster'. Select this to start drawing around an area. You'll see that the cursor takes when blue lines start appearing.

The whole cluster will be blue if it takes. Select 'Save' to keep this cluster and redraw others. You'll be asked to name each cluster as well.

Exporting to Walkbooks

Once your clusters are available on the screen, you can click the home icon in the top right to begin exporting to walkbooks.

You can make additional adjustments to your final audiences by adjusting the walkability scores (high, medium, low), shift length (by hours), or minutes at the door. You'll see the 'Shifts Required' options change as you adjust the length or minutes. Once happy with your clusters, select 'Export to Walkbook'.

Walkability in Surveys

A new tab will open to bring you to the survey grid. From here, select 'Create Survey' to start a new walk survey or click into an existing draft walk survey. On the Targets tab is where you'll select your Walkability audience under Walkability:

The name of your audience will begin with the region you selected, followed by 'MyData', your search name, and the letter or name given to the cluster. For example:

  • VA CD01: MyData - Search Name Here-A

Select your first audience and proceed with publishing the survey. Re-publish a new survey for each cluster. We recommend copying the survey and changing the audience for the quickest survey set-up process.
