Learn how to serve sticky footer and banderole ads to your website.

Updated over 8 months ago

Introduction

In this article, you'll learn how to use a native ad template to build a sticky footer ad or banderole ad using a custom rendering/API ad template. This type of native ad template includes HTML, JavaScript, and styling - everything needed to display the ad properly.

What are sticky footer ads?

Also known as a floor ad or adhesion ad, a sticky footer is a horizontal banner ad that appears and sticks to the bottom of the user's window.

What are banderole ads?

Banderole ads are large, fixed-position banner ads that remain visible as users scroll. Typically placed at the bottom of the page, these ads can span the full width (up to 970px) and when they are closed, they slide across the screen.

Requirements

To get started, ensure you have the following:

  • Access to the Indie Ads Manager platform

  • A standard ad zone with the size set to Dynamic

    • Homepage Only (recommended)

    • Can be inserted sitewide

  • Ad creative: 970x90 (super leaderboard), 728x90 (leaderboard) or 320x50 (mobile banner)

Step-by-Step Guide

  • Log into Indie Ads Manager and navigate to the relevant Advertiser record (or create a new Advertiser)

  • Click Add Campaign and select Standard Campaign

  • Enter a name for your Campaign and adjust the Targeting & Scheduling

  • Click Create Campaign

  • In your newly created campaign, click Add Ad Item

  • From the Add Ad Item window, select Native (Custom Rendering/API)

  • Give the ad a name (required) and insert a Destination URL (optional)

  • Set the ad item's side to Dynamic then complete the remaining fields as needed

  • From the Template dropdown, select one of the following:

    • Display: Native Sticky Footer Ad

    • Display: Native Banderole Ad

  • Both of these templates only require you to upload your image creative

Targeting

The sticky footer and banderole ad templates can accommodate ads for desktop or mobile. Because of this, you may want to add some targeting parameters.

  • For mobile banners (320x50), set the targeting to Mobile & Tablet

  • For leaderboard (728x90) and super leaderboard (970x90) banners, set the targeting to Desktop Only

Depending on how you set up your campaign, you'll find the targeting in different areas.

  • For Ad Level targeting, the Targeting options are within the ad item build window

  • For Campaign Level targeting, the Targeting options will be located within the assignment details window

Read-Only Code

When building your ad using a native ad template, you will see a window with the template code. This code is read-only; you cannot edit (or break) the template from the Ad Item build window.

Basic Troubleshooting

  • Ad Not Displaying: ensure your ad is assigned to the correct zone and that the zone has been inserted into your website correctly.

  • Image Not Displaying Correctly: check that your image meets the required dimensions and is in an acceptable format (JPEG, PNG, GIF)
