Text Field

Use the Text Field to add text that requires a response.

Updated over a year ago

The Text Field allows users to provide textual responses to questions or prompts.

There are two different types of text fields you can configure in the Form Builder:

  • Short Answer Field (Default Setting)

A text input field, designed for succinct single-line responses, is the most frequently utilised for capturing essential information such as given names, surnames, suburbs, or any other inquiries that demand a concise answer.

  • Long Answer Field (Multiline Setting)

This text field is designed to accept a comprehensive response over several lines—this could include descriptions or comments. Its capacity is dynamic, expanding with the content entered unless the character limit has been predetermined.

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. In the Form Fields panel (on the right-hand side of your screen), drag and drop the Text field onto your form, or click on the Add Item button and choose the Text field from the list.

  2. Write a question or prompt.

  3. Optional customisable for text fields:

    1. Add a Placeholder text to give respondents a helpful hint about what information they should put in the input field.

    2. Add Max Characters to restrict the total number of characters a respondent can enter in their response.

    3. Click on Multiline to change settings to a long answer field. The text field will present as a short answer field if not selected.

    4. Select Input Required if you want to make sure this field is answered.

    5. Select Show Time Entered for an automatic date & time stamp with each answer.

    6. Select Show User Last Edited to capture user details, which is excellent for authenticity.

    7. Configure Summary Page Settings to view Text field responses at a glance, i.e., how you want to see your data in the Responses Display List.
      • Select Filterable to easily filter text responses for quick reference.
      • Select Display in List to view text responses directly from the list.
      • Select Edit in List to edit text responses in the display view.

  4. Select Save & Preview to see how your text fields are in action!
