Segments allow you to filter your audience based on specific criteria, so you can target the right contacts with the right campaigns. You can segment by contact details, ticket purchase data, and campaign interactions. This article explains how to create and save a segment.
Step 1: Open the Segment Builder
Go to Innercrowd Dashboard > Audience and click Create segment in the top right corner of the page.
A filter panel will appear above your contact list, showing "Segment: New Segment" and an empty filter builder.
Step 2: Add a Filter
Click the + button next to one of the three filter categories to add your first filter:
Contact Details lets you filter by personal information such as first name, last name, email, phone, gender, registration date, consent, tag, age, city, company name, and any custom fields you have configured.
Tickets lets you filter based on ticket purchase data pulled directly from your ticketing provider integration. Available filters include event, ticket type, purchase date, and visit count. This makes it possible to target contacts based on their actual event attendance and purchase history. The data in this category is always up to date via the data sync with your ticketing provider.
Campaigns lets you filter based on campaign interactions, including the channel used, campaign name, campaign status, and send date.
Step 3: Include or Exclude
Each filter group has an include and exclude toggle. Use include to show only contacts that match the filter. Use exclude to remove matching contacts from your results.
Step 4: Combine Filters with AND and OR
You can add multiple filter groups to refine your segment further:
AND means a contact must match all filter groups to be included. Use this to narrow down your audience. For example: contacts who bought a ticket for Event A AND have WhatsApp consent enabled.
OR means a contact only needs to match one of the filter groups to be included. Use this to broaden your audience. For example: contacts who attended Event A OR Event B.
Click AND + to add a filter group that all contacts must match in addition to the existing filters. Click OR + to add an alternative filter group that contacts can match instead.
Step 5: Apply Your Filters
Once you have set up your filters, click Apply Filters to update the contact list below and preview the results.
Step 6: Save the Segment
When you are happy with your filters, click Save segment in the top right corner. A pop-up will appear asking you to give your segment a name. Enter a clear, recognisable name and click Continue.
Succes! Your segment is saved and can be loaded at any time via the Load a segment button on the Audience page.
