Authors can use a Study plan to set dates for sections and assessed tasks that flow through to class activations of the course.

The study plan is also where you can add weightings for assessed tasks.

An overview of how the study plan works

In the study plan, authors set a course duration (in days) then can choose which day sections and assessed tasks open and which day assessed tasks are due.

Whenever a manage user creates a class activation and chooses an actual Start date (e.g. Monday 2nd November) these relative open/due days automatically flow through. For example, if an author set the first assessed task to be due on Day 8 of the course, the due date of Monday 9th November would automatically be applied to that assessed task.

Dates for sections and assessed tasks can still be edited within the class activation but using the study plan is a great way to automatically set the right time-frames on a course every time (instead of manually setting dates for each class activation).

Note: If the study plan is updated and the course republished, changes will flow through to class activations.

How to set up a study plan

When you're editing a course page, select Study plan (in the header above the page content).

You'll see the sections and assessed tasks/quizzes in your course and this is where you can edit particular days for things.

How to set the length of the course

The Default course duration is 30 days (or 5 days after the 'last' task or quiz is due). To change the course duration:

  1. Select the pencil next to the Default course duration.

  2. Type or use the up/down arrows to edit the Number of days.

  3. Update.

How to set section open dates

Note

There are some things you cannot edit in sections.

  • All sections close at the end of the course.

  • The first section always opens on Day 1 (so learners have content when they start the course).

To edit the day a section opens:

  1. Select the pencil on the right of that section row.

  2. Type or use the up/down arrows to set the day on you want the section to open.

Tip: Courses begin on Day 1. So if you wanted a section to open at the beginning of the second week, you'd choose Day 8.

How to set open/due dates and weightings for assessed tasks and quizzes

To edit the day an assessment opens (or is due):

  1. Select the pencil on the right of that assessed task/quiz row.

  2. Add the Weighting for the task/quiz (as a percentage).

  3. Type or use the up/down arrows to set the day on you want the task/quiz to Open and Close/is Due.
