Overview of Talk
Talk is where you can ask questions and interact with your facilitator, communicate with other learners, and read important news, notices, and updates.
You’ll find Talk in your left menu when you’re inside one of your courses.
How to view and change between Talk channels
In Talk, you’ll see a list of channels. Channels provide structure so that related posts can be grouped together. The channels you see in Talk are set by your learning provider and may vary between courses.
Talk channels can be Public, Group or Private.
Public channels are open to the entire class.
Group channels are where you can chat with just a subset of your class.
Private channels let you start a private conversation with your facilitator(s).

How to navigate Talk channels
To view the posts in a channel, select the channel name from the list. You can then look through all messages and replies. When you first go to a channel, you’ll get taken to the most recent message and can scroll up to see ones that were posted earlier.
How to search Talk channels
Search social channels and discussions to find specific information. You can search keywords or a person’s name.
Select a search result and be taken straight to it, head back to Search and you’ll see your results are still there ready for you to browse.
How to post a message
To send your own message, navigate to the channel you want to post it in and select Message Channel.
There are options to format your post and add links or attachments.
When you have finished writing your message selecting Post something will share it in the channel.
How to interact with others’ messages
A key part of Talk is interacting with others. If you’ve used social media before, you’ll find a lot of similarities.
How to Like someone's message
If you’re new to online discussions, you might want to start by liking a message that someone has shared. Simply select Like.
Tip: Likes are anonymous, and the author won't be notified. However, they are useful for showing appreciation and highlighting valuable messages for others.
How to Reply to someone
Replying to messages is a great way to get a conversation going. Select Reply and you’ll see a dialog box for you to put your reply, with the same formatting and attachment options as you have when you post your own message.
Tip: It can be a bit daunting knowing what to say when replying to others. So, if you get stuck, we’ve got a collection of online discussion prompts to give you some ideas.
If you’re just getting started, try Liking or Replying to someone else’s post, then have a go at making your own post!
How to report a message
If you see a message that you think should be reported to the facilitator for moderation, select Report on the relevant message.
This will hide the message for you and the facilitator will be able to moderate the it. As with Likes, Reports are anonymous and the person who wrote the post won’t be notified.
Note: Reports are not anonymous for the facilitator's view.
How to find new messages
When there are unread Talk channel messages or resplies, you'll see a green dot beside Talk on your left menu and beside the particular channel(s) and message(s) that are new.
How to get email updates for Talk channels
As a default, when people respond to a message you've posted (or replied to), you'll get an in-app notification (found in the Bell in the top right). And if you've set your preferences to allow email or text, you'll get an email/text too.
You can also choose to get email updates for new posts in private channels.
