Setting up a Kernel kids account can be done in a few steps. All Kernel kids accounts must be linked to a parent or legal guardian's individual investment account, you can read more about how our accounts are structured here.

If you already have an individual Kernel account

Please ensure that your account is fully verified; we must ensure the parent or legal guardian's identity and proof of address is verified to link the accounts together. You can complete your account setup by logging into Kernel and then following the prompts.

If you do not have an individual Kernel account

Please either create an individual Kernel account or send through proof of ID and proof of address for you as an individual, so that we can verify your identity.

Required documents to set up a Kernel kids account

In addition to setting up an individual account, or verifying your identity and address, please send through the following information to support@kernelwealth.co.nz:

  • the child's IRD number

  • a copy of the child's NZ passport, NZ birth certificate or NZ drivers license if they have one

  • the email address you would like to use for the account (for the purpose of login, we can only have one account per email)

If the child does not yet have an IRD number and you are their parent or legal guardian you can apply with the IRD online.

Important note about email addresses

If you already have an account with Kernel, you will need to use a different email address for the kids account, than the one associated with your individual account. You cannot use the same email for both an individual and kids account.

See the full terms and conditions of Kernel kids accounts here.
