How to add Goals & Objectives

This article will guide you through the process of adding goals for your students in Kit.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Adding your student's goals/objectives will help you target specific areas they need to improve for their IEP!

To add goals for your students when setting up your caseload, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Student Grid and click on the first name of your student to open their student profile.

  2. If you haven't added IEP start/end dates yet, make sure to add that info by selecting 'Add IEP' and then enter the student's IEP details, then click 'Save IEP.'

Click here to see a list of fields that can be added to the 'Student IEP' section

  • Eligibility

  • IEP Start Date

  • IEP End Date

  • Eval Due Date

  • Specially Designed Instruction

  • Duration (i.e. number of minutes/hours)

  • Frequency (i.e. number of times the service will be provided during a given time period)

  • Time (i.e. service provided daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly)

  • Location

Now that you've added IEP details, you can now add goals below the IEP section by selecting 'Add Goal.'

You can use your favorite AI tool to quickly create goals for your student using this prompt:

Generate an IEP goal in the area of ________________ for a ___ grade student with the following strengths and needs…

The goal should be formatted to include a single target skill, the type of support provided, the criterion for mastery, and the method of measurement. Also develop 3-4 progressive objectives that break down the overall goal into manageable steps, increasing in complexity or hierarchy.

Then enter the following info for each goal:

  1. Goal Summary: A brief 2-3 word description of the goal
(e.x. identify main idea, multi-step addition).

  2. Goal Description: A comprehensive statement of the goal as stated in the IEP
(e.x. The student will improve his reading comprehension skills by identifying the main idea and supporting details in a text, given graphic organizers, scoring 80% accuracy on comprehension assessments over three consecutive assessments as measured by weekly reading comprehension assessments and teacher observation.)

Once done, select 'Create Goal' and you are all set!

If you'd like to add objectives to a goal, click on the goal to expand the details, then click 'Add objective'. Complete this step to add additional objectives.
