Reader Display Blank

Symptom

The Card Reader's display is powered (you can tell because it has it's Green backlight illuminated) but shows no text at all on the display.

For example:

If the Card Reader does NOT show it's backlight, it's possible the Card Reader is not receiving power, or it could be the issue is affecting the Card Reader's backlight as well.

To confirm if it's a card reader board issue, you'll want to do a swap test with a reader on a known working machine, to see if the known working machine is able to power the reader.

For readers that display the backlight, but no words on the display; this indicates a hardware malfunction with the Card Reader's display.

If the issue is limited to the Card Reader's display, the reader will likely still function correctly to charge Laundry Cards and trigger machines to start; however customers won't be able to tell what's happening because of the faulty display.

Solution

The board inside the reader will need to be replaced.

A replacement Card Reader circuit board can be ordered from your distributor directly.

You will need to know what specific reader board type you need for the machine it's controlling.

You can give your distributor the full model number of your machine in order to look up the reader board type it uses; however, all reader boards will have their reader board type printed on the back of the card reader board itself.

Below are pictures of 3 different card reader board types as examples

(a Compass Serial, a Generic Serial, and a Generic Relay Card Reader board type):

In some cases, on newer reader boards; the reader board part # will also be printed on this label, just below the reader board type name.

Card Reader board part numbers are usually "ASSY-02-02-##").

For example, the reader board shown below is an "MDB" reader (used for vending machines (or other MDB communication devices) only), and it's part number is ASSY-02-02-09):

If you're unable to read the sticker from your Card Reader board, and would like to know which reader board type your specific machine needs;

email support@laundroworks.com and include the full model number of your machine so we can advise on the specific Reader Board type you'll need as a replacement reader board.
