🍔 Combos

Sell a burger, a side and a drink as one item at one price: set up combos in the back office and ring them on the workstation.

Combos let you sell a set of products — a burger, a side and a drink, say — as one item at one price. Staff ring it in a few taps, and the kitchen still gets each product on its own.

Set up a combo

  1. In the back office, go to Menu › Combos and click New combo.

  2. On General information, enter a Name and choose the categories where the combo tile appears on the workstation.

  3. On Slots, add one slot per choice the customer makes — at least two. For each slot, enter a Label (for example "Side") and pick a Type: Products to choose the options from the Product bank, or Categories to offer every product in the chosen categories, including ones you add later. Mark one Default option, and turn on Trigger if ringing one of this slot's products on its own should offer the combo.

  4. On Pricing, choose a Pricing model and enter a value for each revenue center that sells the combo.

  5. Save.

Fixed price or flat discount?

  • Fixed price — The combo sells at the price you enter. You can add an Upcharge to any option, for example onion rings instead of fries.

  • Flat discount — The price is the chosen products' regular prices added up, minus the discount you enter, so the combo follows your price changes. This model takes no upcharges: switching to it resets any you've entered to 0.

A revenue center with no price (or discount) doesn't sell the combo. Once you save, the Pricing summary shows the combo price, the À la carte total and the Savings for each revenue center.

Ringing a combo on the workstation

  • Tap the combo tile. Each slot starts on its default option; change any choice, then add the combo to the order. It only goes on the order once every slot is filled.

  • Ring a product from a Trigger slot and the POS asks Make it a combo? with the combo price and the saving. Tap Make it a combo or No, just the product. If the product is in several combos, pick one from the list.

  • To ring several of the same combo, enter the quantity before tapping the tile.

A few things worth knowing

  • Every slot needs exactly one choice. Optional slots and "pick two" slots aren't available.

  • The kitchen sees the products, not the combo. Each product prints and goes to the KDS where it normally does.

  • Some products can't be in a combo: other combos, open-price products, products in an alcohol category, and products with variants (pick the specific variant instead).

  • Promotions don't apply to combos. Order discounts still do.

  • Combos aren't available for online or third-party ordering. The products are still sold there on their own.

  • A sent combo is voided as a whole. It can't be edited or split across seats either — transfer it to another seat as one block.

  • On reports, the combo's revenue shows under the combo, and its products show at $0 under their own categories.

Why doesn't my combo show on the workstation?

Usually one of three things: it has no price (or discount) for that revenue center, one of its slots has no available option, or it isn't in a category shown on the workstation. Check the Warnings column in Menu › Combos — it says what's missing.

Why did the total go up when I voided part of a combo?

Voiding one product of a combo that hasn't been sent breaks the combo. The other products go back on the order at their regular prices, so the total can go up. A product that isn't sold on its own at that revenue center is removed.

If you see one of these messages

  • "A combo needs at least two slots." — Add a second slot on the Slots tab.

  • "Select a default option among the slot's options." — In that slot, select the default with the radio button next to an option.

  • "Enter a price above 0 for at least one revenue center." (or "Enter a discount above 0 for at least one revenue center.") — On the Pricing tab, enter a value for at least one revenue center.

  • "These options cannot be part of a combo: Onion rings." — Remove that option. It's one of the products that can't be in a combo (see above).

  • "Slot "Side" has no available option (products deleted or absent from the categories)." — Add products to the slot, or to its categories.

  • "At revenue center Dining Room, the combo costs more than its options à la carte." — A warning, not an error: lower the combo price or check the default options' prices.

  • "Choose an option for Side before adding this combo." — On the workstation, pick an option in that slot.

  • "This combo is no longer available." — The combo was deleted, or it has no price for this revenue center. Check Menu › Combos.

  • "A combo is never split across seats. Transfer it to another seat as one unit." — Move the whole combo to the other seat instead of splitting it.
