With the new Discounts system, Meadow gives you full control over where and how discounts apply. You can set restrictions globally (across your entire shop) or individually (per discount). These controls ensure discounts are always applied in the right places — and never where they shouldn’t be.
Global Restrictions
Global Restrictions apply to all discounts across your organization.
They are ideal for system-wide rules that should always be respected, no matter how individual discounts are configured.
Found under Settings → Discounts → Settings
Apply to all discount types (Product, BOGO, Order, and Line Item)
Restrict by Category, Subcategory, Tag, Brand, or Product Option
Common use cases include:
Preventing discounts on premium or limited-edition products
Preventing discounts on low margin products
🧠 Tip: Global Restrictions always override any settings on individual discounts.
If a product or brand is restricted globally, no discount will apply to it — even if an individual discount tries to include it.
Individual Discount Restrictions
Each discount also allows for individual restrictions that define where that specific promotion applies. This gives you flexibility to target promotions without affecting your global settings.
Individual discount restrictions
Set restrictions by Category, Subcategory, Tag, Brand, or Product Option
Common examples:
A 20% Off BOGO on edibles only
A brand-specific Order Discount (e.g., “Spend $100 on STIIIZY products”)
A “Buy 2 Get 1 Free” deal limited to Pre-Rolls tagged “Daily Deal”
⚙️ Individual restrictions apply only within that one discount’s setup. At this time, “On Sale” exclusions can only be set at the individual discount level. Global restrictions do not currently support excluding products marked as On Sale.
Maximum Discount Percent (Global Cap)
To protect your margins, you can set a Maximum Discount Percent under Global Settings. This acts as a hard ceiling on all discounts — ensuring no combination of discounts can exceed your defined limit.
Found under Settings → Discounts → Settings → Max Discount Percent
Applies to all discounts and stacking scenarios
Overrides any individual discount configuration or manual override at POS
🚫 For example: If your global max discount is set to 40%, no order can ever exceed 40% off — even if a combination of Product, Order, and Loyalty discounts would otherwise add up to more.
The Hierarchy of Control
To summarize how restrictions and limits work together:
Global Restrictions — apply to all discounts first and override everything.
Max Discount Percent — applies across all discounts to cap total savings.
Individual Restrictions — apply next, defining which products qualify within each discount.
This hierarchy ensures your brand and margin protection rules always take priority — while still allowing flexibility to design targeted, high-impact promotions.
Takeaway
Use restrictions to stay in control of your discount strategy.
Global restrictions protect your store at the highest level, individual restrictions fine-tune your promotions, and the max discount percent ensures every deal stays within your comfort zone.
Together, these tools let you run smart, secure, and profitable promotions — without ever losing control of how far your discounts go.
