Take this online training course to learn how to open, close, customize shifts and finalize drawers in Meadow
Starting a Shift
When a user logs in and selects POS when no shift is open, they will be prompted to enter a starting drawer balance.
You can require a manager to enter their PIN to open and close a shift in the Intake/In Store Settings.
This drawer is now recorded as a shift, opened by that user, at that time, with that cash balance. All this information is recorded and shown in Admin and reporting.
Drawers can be viewed under the In Store tab in Admin.
For increased security, you can require a PIN on every transaction so only the user on the shift can complete an order.
This is on by default if you allow multiple users on one shift.
The user completing a transaction will select their name when finishing the order, and will be prompted to enter their PIN to confirm.
Remember: do not use the "Switch Users" button in the middle of a shift.
If you would like multiple users on a single shift, turn on "Shifts allow multiple employees." This allows multiple users to share a drawer.
If you select Switch User, you will have to end any open shifts in order to start a new one.
Ending a Shift
To end a shift, open the menu with the icon in the top left corner of POS.
Click on Shift Sales and you will see a summary for the shift.
Click on End Shift and confirm by clicking OK.
NOTE: Any user on a shift or manager can end a shift. Users who are not a manager or not on a shift cannot end someone else's shift.
Adjusting a Drawer's Balance
If you find a discrepancy you need to correct on a drawer, you can adjust the expected totals directly in Admin (even if the drawer is closed)
Find the drawer you want to adjust in the Drawers list in Admin
Click the button with three dots in the top right corner and select "Adjust Drawer."
Enter the value and select the type (cash/other) and action (add/subtract).
This will add/subtract from the expected drawer total value for that payment type.
A note of the action will be added to the shift log.
Finalizing a Shift
Once a shift has been ended, you can "finalize" it in Admin to confirm the accuracy of the drawer. Any discrepancy between expected and actual drawer balance will be shown and recorded.
Finalized drawers can't be edited, but you can unfinalize it if you need to fix a mistake or correct the amount in the Final Ending Balance field.
Hiding the Shift Balance
If you do not want the shift balance to display at POS, you can toggle the "Hide shift sales from POS" setting in Admin under Intake / In-Store Settings.
