Note: Rotations, terms and units will vary based on facility and discipline. Examples provided here are indicative of the process only.
Med App's preference and allocations tool makes it easy to select and rank you preferences, and allows the admin team to more fairly allocate preferences out amongst a cohort.
Obviously, this still doesn't mean everyone gets what they want all the time, but overall will return a fairer result for more people.
How do I receive my preference link?
You will receive a link to your preference selection view via Med App or via email.
Click on the link and it will open a window that will allow you to start the process. Read the instructions and continue!
How do I select my preferences?
Each sit may be slightly different depending on minimum requirements, number of terms/units or other specific rules. See below for quick guides on:
Select (want/unwant) rotations plus ranking, or
Ranking only
Select + Ranking
You will see a list of all the available rotations. In this setup you will:
Select the 'want' or 'unwant' button next to the rotations.
A site may choose to have a minimum number (e.g. 5 'wants')
On the next step you will then move the cards up or down to get your preferred order.
Once you are happy, hit submit.
Ranking Only
In this setup you will just rank your units according to your preferred order (no want/unwant selection).
Slide the cards up or down in order to get your preferred ranking list.
Once you're happy, submit.
How will I be notified of my allocation?
Once you have submitted your preferences the hospital admin team will need to get everybody's submission, then run the allocation.
They will then need to review any special considerations or other internal rules before finalising.
Once finalised they will 'publish' the allocations. You will be notified via Med App and/or email that the allocation is completed.

If swaps are enabled you may be able to request a swap with someone.
How can I swap?
Some hospitals may allow you to submit swaps with other clinicians. Some hospitals will not have this enabled.
If it is enabled, a section will be visible via the preference link once you have been allocated your rotations. Use this to submit a swap request by following the prompts.
