It is normal to have questions about the timing cycles and operational temperatures of your veterinary light therapy hardware.
Understanding the 3-Minute Therapy Cycle
The Luma is factory-programmed to run in automatic, standalone 3-minute therapy cycles. Depending on the custom treatment protocol your clinician built inside your app, it may be completely normal and expected behavior for the device to temporarily turn off or signal a pause at the 3-minute mark before you shift to the next treatment zone.
The Strict 30-Minute Session Limit
To protect patient tissue and preserve internal electrical elements, the Luma features a strict 30-minute cumulative operation limit per treatment session. Never attempt to run continuous, back-to-back treatment blocks that extend beyond 30 aggregate minutes unless your protocol has been explicitly updated and adjusted by your clinical provider.
The 15-Minute Cooling Solution
If you find that the Luma device becomes uncomfortably warm after about 20 minutes of continuous use, you can safely and quickly drop its operational temperature with this simple trick:
Power off the Luma completely.
Place the device inside a sealed, airtight Ziploc bag to fully protect the electronics from any ambient moisture.
Refrigerate the bagged device for about 15 minutes.
This brief cooling process safely resets the internal components to an optimal temperature, allowing you to resume extended treatment sessions without the device overheating.
Managing Normal Warmth vs. Overheating
Normal Behavior: It is completely standard for the front array of the Luma to emit a mild, ambient warmth during prolonged use.
What to do if it feels hot: If the device casing feels uncomfortable to the touch, or your pet shows any signs of restlessness, stop the treatment session immediately. Power down the unit and allow the internal electronics to cool down completely before attempting to resume your protocol.
Hardware Malfunctions: If your device becomes hot almost immediately upon starting, shuts off unexpectedly well before a 3-minute cycle completes, or fails to restart entirely, reach out to Support via email (support@medcovet.com) or our website chat with a brief description of how long the device was running before the shutdown occurred.
