SIA (Social Intelligence Advisor) is an AI-powered premium Mentionlytics feature that provides quick insights from social listening data of your brand and competitors.
In this article, we’ll explain in detail what insights SIA can provide, how it works, and how to use it to get the most value from this feature.
SIA is available to all Advanced and higher-tier plans. Daily Summaries are available from Pro and higher-tier plans.
What is SIA & How Does it Work?
SIA was launched in 2018 with advanced AI algorithms, long before the AI boom we’re experiencing today.
Over the years, it has been developing, expanding its functions everywhere in the platform, and growing. Today, SIA is able to track, analyze, and provide actionable, personalized insights based on your raw social listening data.
SIA analyzes everything that could impact your brand perception, from negative sentiment signals to the performance of your hashtags. To get the most accurate conclusions, Mentionlytics’ Social Intelligence Advisor continuously analyzes:
Brand and competitor mentions
Engagement
Sentiment
Trends
Owned media performance
Each channel’s data (separately and overall)
Audience behavior
Within the SIA Insights page in Mentionlytics, you’ll see:
Brand & Competitor Insights: Its AI discovers patterns and analyzes your mentions’ data to give you actionable insights.
AI Anomaly Detection Alerts: Based on your mentions’ patterns, it detects out-of-ordinary increases in your mentions. Basically, SIA learns your patterns, and whenever something out of the ordinary happens (e.g., a sudden sentiment shift, or a sudden increase in mentions that’s unusual for your brand), you will be notified.
Daily Summaries for Brand Monitoring and Competitors: Based on the mentions of the past 24 hours, SIA automatically generates summaries of the most important topics for your brand and competitors every morning. The daily summaries will also be sent to your email if the SIA Insights section is selected in your daily reports’ custom notifications. Daily summaries are refreshed every 24 hours, which highlights the timely value of these insights.
Now, although SIA serves many purposes in Mentionlytics, there are three areas where you’ll find it most useful.
1. Protect Your Brand Online
The best way to prevent PR crises and protect your brand reputation is ongoing monitoring, timely updates, and audience insights. SIA is doing that through these major functions:
Troll detection: Spotting accounts that repeatedly post negative comments about your brand, taking into consideration the tone, the arguments, and the number of followers. It will inform you if this situation occurs.
Mention Insights: Helps you quickly see which mentions are the most important for the specific period based on how many people they reached.
Anomaly Detection Alerts: SIA learns your patterns, your audience’s typical behavior, and whenever something out of the pattern happens, you will be promptly notified.
Brand Monitoring Daily Summaries: SIA helps you improve brand performance through insightful notifications about your brand's online performance. You can find which topics draw the most engagement, what the sentiment of these topics is, which topic stirred the internet around your brand, and how the audience reacted (sentiment).
2. Improve Your Social Media Performance
SIA tracks your performance on all social media channels you’ve chosen as sources, and provides you with valuable insights related to:
Best days to post based on your past social media activity in the specific time frame, for each channel.
Best hashtags to use based on your past social media performance in the chosen period of time.
3. Analyze Your Competitors
SIA automatically analyzes your competitors’ online performance data and provides you with actionable insights that include:
Competitors Latest Topics (24h): SIA provides a daily summary of the latest hot topics about your competitors. You can find out what the main topic was, how the audience perceived it, the sentiment, and which channels were most active.
The highest-ranking web mentions they had: SIA points out which well-known websites your competitors have been featured on lately, based on their web mentions, and automatically scans whether you’re mentioned there too.
SIA Insights: Feature Tour
If you want to access the SIA insights, you have two options for where to find them:
1. SIA Insights Page
From the menu on the left side of the screen, clicking the SIA Insights icon takes you to a page with all insights updated every 24-48 hours.
The page allows you to filter the results by:
Date range
Type (Insights, Alerts)
Bookmarked (quick access to insights you’ve previously bookmarked)
All or latest only (for summaries)
When you hover over a specific insight, three small icons will appear, giving you the option to:
Delete insight
Bookmark it
Archive it
If you want to find out more about a specific insight, all you have to do is click the Read Full Analysis button at the bottom left of the insight, and a pop-up will open with the specific insight's analytics.
The page displays the first batch of insights, but you can click the Load More button to access all of them.
Now, if your brand has an extensive number of mentions, and it gets close to the limit, SIA will inform you that you’ve almost reached quota for the month through the Mentions quota warning.
2. SIA Notifications Section
In the top-right corner of the platform, you’ll find the notification bar, with the SIA icon, just beside your user name.
If you click it, a small drop-down window will open, where you’ll be able to see the latest insights from SIA. To jump to the SIA Insights page, you can just click “View All” and it will take you there.
SIA Alerts Explained
There are three different types of SIA Alerts you can receive through Mentionlytics:
SIA Insights (as part of your New Mentions Notifications)
Anomaly Detection Alerts
SIA Crisis Alerts
Below, we explain how to set up each type of SIA Alerts and how it helps you protect and improve your brand.
1. SIA Insights (inside your New Mentions Notifications)
If you want to receive SIA Insights via email, follow these steps:
Go to Settings on the left-side menu.
Click Notifications.
Once you do that, a dashboard will open with a little blue plus sign (+) in the right corner of the Email Notification segment.
When you click on it, a pop-up will open with the settings parameters that include “Type of Notification”.
Select “New Mentions” and you’ll see the following settings:
SIA Insights are selected to be included in your email sections by default.
All you have to do is set up all the other parameters of the email notification and hit “Save”. Then, you’ll start receiving New Mentions emails enriched with SIA Insights.
This way, you’ll be able to receive daily summaries in your inbox and stay up to date, and you’ll get new personalized tips on how to improve your performance based on your latest social listening data, without logging into Mentionlytics.
2. Anomaly Detection Alerts
Anomaly Detection Alerts notify you only when something important and out of the ordinary happens, helping you cut through the noise of daily mentions.
Important: Once you create your Mentionlytics account, an Anomaly Detection Alert is automatically created for your Brand Monitoring keywords. You can keep it, edit it, or delete it if you want.
If you want to receive SIA’s Anomaly Detection Alerts:
Go to Settings on the left-side menu.
Click Notifications.
Hit the little blue plus sign (+) in the right corner of the Email Notification segment.
When you click on it, a pop-up will open with the settings parameters that include “Type of Notification”.
Select “Anomaly Detection” and you’ll see the following settings:
Send to: The email address that should receive the alert (e.g., you or another team member-user of Mentionlytics).
Mention Tracker/Keyword: Choose which tracker to monitor (brand, competitor, or custom keyword).
Select channels: Choose which channels to monitor for anomalies.
Minimum hours between alerts: Choose the number of hours between alerts to avoid being notified for the same incident in a short time.
Alert threshold: Set the minimum increase in mentions needed to receive an alert.
Checkbox for negative mentions only: Check this box to receive alerts only for negative mentions.
Sensitivity: Adjust how sensitive the AI algorithm is for detecting anomalies. Set it higher to catch more anomalies (including smaller spikes), or lower to receive alerts only for significant changes.
AI Summary Language: Set up the language you want your summaries to be.
CC and BCC: Add additional recipients who don't necessarily need to be Mentionlytics users.
Click on the Save button in the bottom corner of the pop-up.
Anomaly detection alerts help you stay on top of unusual situations that can occur on social media, such as a social media backlash, a PR crisis on the rise, customer complaints going viral, and more.
These alerts are the front line of your brand protection, as they catch the situation boiling over early on, so you can take action before it gets out of hand.
💡Tip: You can create as many Anomaly Detection Alerts as you want, using different settings, and more.
3. SIA Crisis Alerts
SIA Crisis Alerts are keeping you up to date with any sudden surge of new mentions (positive or negative in sentiment), no matter if it’s deviating from your usual pattern or not.
This is their main difference from the Anomaly Detection Alerts, which only trigger when something is out of the ordinary.
To set them up, follow these steps:
Go to Settings on your left-side menu.
Click on Notifications.
Scroll down, and locate SIA Alert Settings.
Configure the following options:
Choose the language of SIA summaries (from the dropdown menu).
Off/On switch to allow SIA Crisis Alerts to be sent to the administrators of your account.
Crisis Alert Threshold: Set the minimum increase in the number of mentions that could trigger alerts.
Crisis Detection Sensitivity: Adjust the sensitivity of the algorithm in the same manner as in Anomaly Detection alerts.
Minimum Hours Between Alerts: Set the minimum number of hours between the alerts to avoid getting a lot of alerts while a positive or negative situation is developing.
Other Emails to Send Alerts: Add any additional recipients to receive SIA Crisis Alerts (e.g., your manager or client)
