Once you set up your account and you are receiving mentions, it’s time to understand how to filter the results more effectively.

You can then use the top filters bar to apply any filter or a combination of filters to specify your mentions and read them by any requirements you may have.

Remember, all 10 filters apply to all features of the Mentionlytics platform, including Reports, Top Mentioners, and everywhere, to give you a comprehensive and focused view of your brand’s online presence.

If you need to filter more in depth, you can always use our Advanced filtering options.

In practice, you can use multiple combinations of the above-mentioned filters to run useful analyses and create insightful reports.

Here are some examples.

Filter Combo #1: Channel & Sentiment

By combining Channel and Sentiment filters together, you can see how your brand is perceived by the audiences of different channels.

For example, you may be rocking on Instagram, but LinkedIn users might have another opinion about your brand.

In any case, with these filters, you can understand which channels your brand is more appealing. And also where your user-generated content is performing better.

Filter Combo #2: Channel & Country

Channel and Country filters can be very useful, especially if you work for an international brand with mentions from all around the world.

For instance, you can use the Channel Filter to focus on your TikTok mentions, then apply the Country Filter for “United States” to understand how your brand is perceived in the U.S. market.

That way, you can spot where there’s room for improvement regarding your localization efforts. Or you can identify new markets to expand to and the social media channel you should use to do so.

Filter Combo #3: Sentiment & Language

Similar to the above, the Sentiment and Language filter combo comes in handy for brands that play the international game.

Practically, most of our users take advantage of these filters to understand the sentiments behind comments in different languages and figure out how people of different ethnicities and cultural backgrounds perceive their brand.

For example, you can use the Language Filter to examine Spanish language mentions, and then apply the Sentiment Filter to only see positive mentions, giving you a focused view of what Spanish speakers appreciate about your brand, not only in Spain but anywhere in the world.

Pro Tip: You can leverage one of our latest features, Mention Translate, to understand what people say about your brand in any language you don’t know.

Filter Combo #4: Category & Tags

Category and Tags combination is also valuable to report on specific brand aspects, like gathering all negative reviews and complaints from particular social media areas and seeing from where you receive the most mentions.

But you have to make sure you curate your mentions meticulously to ensure no mention is left untagged.

Filter Combo #5: Category, Sentiment & Language

Last, you can certainly combine more than two filters together to get results.

Category, Sentiment, and Language is a popular filter combination to understand how people of different nationalities feel and talk about your brand in particular online corners, like blogs, Instagram stories, or TikTok comments.

Just remember that, in this way, you significantly narrow down your data sources. However, it can be very helpful to identify new opportunities or potential threats to your brand.

Bonus: Search by Domain

In case you want to see social listening results from one specific domain or a user, you can put their domain or username into the search bar. Mentionlytics will generate all results based on your mentions from this particular domain or user, excluding everything else.

Pro Tip: Use this to monitor the performance of your brand ambassador’s content or for your influencer campaigns.
