Countdown timers are a great way to incentivize action around a promotion or discount. All timers count down to a deadline you set manually using the plus and minus signs in the attribute panel.
In this article, we'll cover the following:
Defining Countdown Timers
You can choose between countdown types: Campaign or Custom.
Campaign countdown timers will countdown to the campaign's end date the creative is attached.
Custom countdown timers will countdown from the specified time setting each time the ad is viewed.
Styling Countdown Timers
Adjust the look of the timer with the colon separators, time labels, and image replacement attributes.
This controls whether colons appear between the measurements of time. For example, if the colon separators are on, the countdown would appear as 1:00, whereas with them off, it would appear as 1 00.
Turning time labels on gives Day, Hour, Minute, and Second labels to a countdown. For example, a 10-day countdown with the labels turned on would read: 10 Days 22 Hours 15 minutes. This is a good example of when you would want to turn the colon separators off.
The IAB only allows 30 seconds of animation at a time unless the user opts back in (for example, by hovering). The countdown qualifies as animation, so if your scene lasts longer than 30 seconds (for example, if there is only one scene in the ad), you'll want to add an image here. If the user hovers over the image, the timer will resume.
All the standard text and element attributes also apply to the timer element. For full details on text attributes, please take a look at the Text Element.
