This article explains where you can park, how to lock the bike, how the app map works, and how to end your ride correctly.

Quick Parking Checklist

Before ending your ride, make sure all of the following are true:

✔ You are inside a green parking zone
✔ You are parked at a public bike (Sheffield) stand shown in the app
✔ The bike is tethered and locked to the stand using the combination lock
✔ You submit a clear photo showing the bike locked
✔ You end the ride while standing beside the bike

1. Where You Can Park (Map Zones Explained)

The in-app map shows where you can ride, pause, and end your trip. Zone colours are important.

Green Zone - Parking allowed

  • This is the only area where you can end your ride

  • You must park at a public bike stand within a green zone

  • When browsing without an active ride, only green zones are shown

  • Once a ride starts, P markers appear showing exact stand locations

White Zone - Riding only

  • You can ride through these areas

  • You cannot end your ride here

Red Zone - No parking

  • You cannot end your ride here.

  • Ending a ride in a red zone results in an automatic €30 fine.

Light Blue Zone - Paid parking

  • Ending your ride here applies an additional fee (for example, airport)

Dark Blue Zone - Discount parking

  • End your ride here to receive a discounted price

Tip: Tap any zone in the app to see zone details.

2. How to Park Properly

Always park at a public bike stand

  • Only park at public bike (Sheffield) stands shown in the app

  • Never park against poles, fences, railings, gates, walls, or private property

Lock the bike securely

  • Use the combination lock to lock the bike frame to the stand

  • The lock code is shown in the bike name in the app (for example: “Lock Code 1234”)

  • Ensure the lock is tight and clearly visible

If the stand is full

  • Use the next closest stand shown on your map during your active ride

Tethering

  • You may lock one MOBY bike to another only if the other bike is already parked correctly at a public stand

❗ Parking anywhere other than a designated public stand may result in a €30 fine.

3. Ending Your Ride in the App (Step by Step)

  1. Stay beside the bike with the app open

  2. Tap “End My Ride” in the app

  3. Lock the bike to the public stand using the combination lock

  4. Take a clear photo showing the bike locked to the stand

  5. Submit the photo

Your ride will only end after:

  • The photo is accepted

  • You see the ride completion confirmation in the app

Do not walk away until you have received confirmation that the ride has ended.

4. Parking Photo Requirements

Your parking photo must clearly show:

  • The bike locked to a public bike stand

  • The lock visibly fastened

  • Enough surrounding context to identify the stand

  • A clear, well-lit image (not blurry or dark)

MOBY uses automated checks to detect incorrect parking.

If the photo does not clearly show correct parking, a €30 fine may apply.

5. Important Rules to Remember

  • All rides must end inside a green zone

  • All parking must be at public bike stands shown in the app

  • Parking at poles, fences, railings, or private property is not allowed

  • You must submit a valid parking photo

  • You must be beside the bike when ending your ride

Failure to follow these rules may result in a €30 parking fine.

6. If the App Does Not Work

If you experience issues ending your ride:

  1. Close the app completely

  2. Wait 15 seconds

  3. Reopen the app and try again

Remain beside the bike until the ride is successfully ended.

Summary

✔ Park only at public bike stands
✔ Stand must be inside a green parking zone
✔ Lock the bike securely
✔ Submit a clear parking photo
✔ End the ride beside the bike

Following these steps will ensure your ride ends correctly and avoids fines.
