How billing works when you switch
💰 Did you know!? Our yearly plan saves $40 per year compared to paying monthly for a full year!
Monthly → Annual
When you upgrade, you won't be charged twice — whatever you paid most recently on your monthly plan is credited toward the annual rate, and you're only charged the difference. Your annual plan starts right away.
🧮 Example: Say you're on the $20/month plan and decide to switch to the $200/year plan. The $20 you most recently paid is credited toward the annual price, so today you're charged $200 − $20 = $180. Your annual plan starts immediately and renews one year later at the standard $200 rate. If you apply a promo code during this upgrade, the checkout total will reflect both the prorated adjustment and the discount. For example, if a $50 discount is applied, the total would be $200 − $20 − $50 = $130.
⚠️ Subscribed through Apple or Google?
The annual plan is only available through MovesApp.com. You'll need to cancel your in-app subscription first and let it expire before signing up on MovesApp.com. To avoid overlapping charges, make sure your in-app subscription has fully expired before starting a new one — setting a reminder for the expiration date can help.
How to cancel your Apple subscription:
Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Tap your name and select Subscriptions.
Locate the Moves App subscription and tap Cancel Subscription.
Note the end date of your billing cycle.
How to cancel your Google subscription:
Open the Google Play Store app.
Tap your profile icon and select Payments & Subscriptions > Subscriptions.
Find the Moves App subscription and tap Cancel Subscription.
Note the end date of your billing cycle.
The day after your billing cycle fully ends, go to movesapp.com to resubscribe, using the same email your account is already set up with (this ensures all your workouts, history, and progress stay intact). When resubscribing, don't forget to enter your promo code (case-sensitive) at checkout to apply any available discounts.
Annual → Monthly
If you switch mid-term, you won't receive a refund for unused time — but it doesn't disappear. The remaining value of your annual plan becomes account credits, which are automatically applied to your monthly invoices until they run out. After that, regular monthly billing takes over. For this reason, we usually recommend waiting until your renewal date to downgrade so you get the most out of your annual savings.
Switching back to annual during a sale
When you upgrade to an annual plan during a promotional offer, the discounted price applies only to the first year. After the first year, your subscription will renew at the standard annual rate unless another promotion is available at the time of renewal.
🧮 Example: If a $50 discount is applied to the standard $200 annual plan, the first-year charge will be $150. Similarly, a $60 discount would reduce the first-year charge to $140.
Any remaining credits from your previous annual plan carry over and apply to the new subscription, reducing what you owe for the new term.
Auto-renewed annual plans
The same downgrade rules apply after your annual plan renews: you can switch to monthly anytime, but you won't get a refund for the unused portion — just credits applied to future monthly invoices. That's why we recommend waiting until your renewal date to downgrade, so you get the full value of what you already paid.
Your workout history goes with you
No matter how you switch, your progress, workout history, and streaks stay intact as long as you're using the same email address.
Quick answers
Will I get charged twice when upgrading to annual? Nope — the upgrade is prorated, so you're only paying the difference.
Can I get a refund for unused time on my annual plan? We don't offer refunds for unused time, but the remaining value becomes credits that automatically apply to future invoices. That's why we recommend waiting until your renewal date to downgrade, so you get the full value of what you already paid.
Can I use a discount code? Yes — during checkout on the Moves App website, enter your promotional code (codes are case-sensitive). Discounts are only available for subscriptions purchased directly through the Moves App website, not through Apple or Google. A promo code only discounts your first term (your first month or first year). After that, your plan renews at the regular price — unless another promotion is running when it's time to renew. The discounted annual price is billed upfront as a single payment, even if a monthly equivalent (e.g., $12.50/month) is displayed. If you apply a discount code during a free trial, the discounted price will be charged after the trial ends, and the subscription will renew at the standard rate thereafter.
Promotional discounts may not apply when downgrading from an annual to a monthly subscription. Be sure to check the terms of any discounts before making changes.
How do I verify my discount was applied? Check the confirmation email or receipt from when you signed up — it should show the discounted rate. You can also confirm the discount code was successfully applied during checkout. If you're still unsure, contact Moves App support for clarification.
Why does my subscription show the full price instead of the discounted rate? If you've applied a discount code or signed up for a promotional offer, your subscription page may still display the full price of the plan. This is normal and does not mean the discount hasn't been applied. Discounts are applied at the time of billing, so the actual charge will reflect the discounted rate, even if the displayed price does not update immediately. For example, if you subscribe to a $200 yearly plan with a 25% discount, your account may still show $200 as the plan price, but you'll be charged $150 at billing time.
What should I do if I accidentally switched plans? If you accidentally switched to a plan you didn't intend to, such as moving from annual to monthly, switch back to your intended plan as soon as possible to avoid unintended billing changes. This ensures you won't be charged for the wrong plan going forward.
