When the calorie total in your Food Log differs from the total shown in the Nutrition Chart, it is because the two sections use different methods to calculate calories.
Calories in the Food Log
In the Food Log, the calories, protein, carbs, and fat for each food come from the nutritional information available for that item. For packaged products, this is usually based on the nutrition label, and for common foods, these are general nutritional values.
The daily calorie total in the Food Log is the sum of the calorie values for all the individual foods and meals you have logged that day:
Calories in the Nutrition Chart
The Nutrition Chart calculates calories using the caloric density of each macronutrient per gram:
Protein: 4 kcal per gram
Carbs: 4 kcal per gram
Fat: 9 kcal per gram
Because of this calculation, the calorie total in the Nutrition Chart may differ from the total in your Food Log when the amounts of protein, carbs, or fat don’t correspond to the real calorie value of the food.
For example, if a food or meal has an incorrectly high amount of carbs, the Nutrition Chart may show a higher calorie count for carbs and a higher total than the Food Log:
How to fix a difference
If you notice a significant calorie difference between the Food Log and Nutrition Chart, check the protein, carbs, and fat amounts for the foods you have logged. Incorrect macronutrient values can affect the calorie total shown in the Nutrition Chart, so adjusting them will make the statistics accurate.
