Group therapy is eligible for coverage under your Health Spending Account (HSA). As part the CRAs commitment to supporting mental health, the HSA allows for multiple different types of therapy, including group therapy.
To qualify for HSA coverage, group therapy must be conducted by a licensed mental health professional and involve a practitioner-patient relationship. This means the session should be a personalized therapeutic experience, rather than a pre-loaded curriculum, seminar, or course.
Eligible practitioners for group therapy include:
Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC)
Psychiatrists
Psychologists
Psychotherapists
Social Workers
If you’re unsure whether your group therapy sessions meet the eligibility criteria, we recommend verifying with your provider that they hold the appropriate credentials.
