Understanding Replenishment: Static vs. Dynamic

Learn how Logiwa IO replenishment moves stock from source to picking locations, how the Static and Dynamic strategies differ, and how replenishment waves create jobs.

Overview

Replenishment moves inventory from reserve storage (source locations) to picking locations (target locations), so pickers find stock where they need it. Logiwa IO only creates replenishment jobs when a replenishment wave runs. Each wave uses one of two strategies, set on the replenishment job type:

  • Static keeps each picking location within the capacity you set on that location.

  • Dynamic keeps enough of each product across all target locations to cover open orders plus a minimum level.

Static vs. Dynamic at a glance

Dynamic Replenishment

Question it answers

Is this picking location below its minimum?

Is there enough of this product across all target locations to cover open orders plus its minimum level?

Thresholds set on

Location: product capacity (Min/Max quantity in a pack type) or LP capacity (Min/Max LP count)

Product: Min/Max Replenishment Level, either Global or Per Warehouse

Open order demand

Not used

Core input

Triggers when

Free Qty + Open Replenishment Qty < Min Qty

Open Order Qty + Min Level > Target Location Free Qty + Open Replenishment Qty

Task quantity

Tops the location up to Max

Covers open orders and tops up to the Max level

Target location

Fixed: the location that holds the capacity

Assigned automatically by the dynamic replenishment algorithm after tasks are created

Best for

Dedicated, fixed pick slots

Demand-driven restocking and products picked from several locations

How replenishment jobs are created

Replenishment jobs are created only when a replenishment wave rule runs, either on its schedule or manually. Stock dropping in a location doesn't create a task by itself, so your wave schedule decides how quickly low stock is caught.

Each run covers one warehouse and processes its job types in the priority order set on the wave rule. One wave can include both Static and Dynamic job types.

Regarding how to setup replenishment job types and waves, please see below articles:

What happens next after replenishment job creation

  1. Source stock is chosen using the job type's FEFO or FIFO setting.

  2. Operators execute the tasks on mobile, in one step (Direct Put) or two (Pick & Put).

  3. You monitor progress on the Replenishment Task Details screen. For Dynamic, the Dynamic Replenishment Report also shows each product's current need.

Common questions

Do job type settings differ between Static and Dynamic?

No. All replenishment job type settings can be used with both. A few behave slightly differently depending on the strategy; see Create a Job Type for Replenishment.

Do open shipment orders affect Static Replenishment?

No. Static only compares each location's stock against its own capacity. Open order demand is used by Dynamic only.

Why wasn't a task created even though stock looks low?
