If you wish to always maintain the same SKU in the same location, thus putting products in locations where the same SKUs are already stored, you can create a putaway algorithm to help with this. In this article, we are gonna explain how it happens by focusing on the example of SKU_300.

Step-by-Step Guide

  • First, go to the Inventory by Location screen to check out the Inventory lines of the product which is SKU_300 to be transferred.

    • For instance, SKU_300 has multiple inventory lines in three different locations.

  • Navigate to the Algorithms screen.

    • If you have trouble finding the screen, please use the Search Option on the menu bar.

  • Select Putaway Algorithm from the available options.

  • Select Create Algorithm from the right side of the screen.

    • After your account is created, a default algorithm named with SAME_SKU_EMPTY_LOCATION_ALGORITHM will be created automatically.

  • A menu with the header Create Algorithm will display. The Primary Information tab will load first.

  • Fill in the following information in the Primary Information section:

    • Algorithm Name*: Type the algorithm's name in the system. We recommend a simple and recognizable name.

    • Warehouse*: Select the relevant warehouse from a dropdown menu.

      • Keep in mind that putaway algorithms are created by warehouse.

    • Active: Set the algorithm as active (Yes) or inactive (No). It must be set to active to be used. Please note that only one algorithm can be active in the system at a time.

*Required fields

  • Click Save. You will be navigated to the Rules tab directly.

  • In Rules tab, click on Create New button to create a Rule from scratch.

  • You can now define the specifics of your first rule. Begin by entering a name in the Rule Name field.

Condition

  • Set a condition by selecting the Plus (+) button next to Condition.

  • If you select Apply to All, this will apply the created rule to all putaway actions.

  • Click Add to continue.

Action

  • Next, define an action or multiple actions for the Action section. This sets the action that the system takes when the selected condition or conditions are met.

  • Click the Plus (+) button to add an action.

  • Choose Suggest a location that has the same SKU from the Action list and click on Save.

Order By

  • Finally, define the Order By, which is the sorting method for the action that you've set to occur.

  • Save the rule by clicking on Save Rule at the bottom.

  • At the end, your rule will look like this.

  • Click on Test Rule button after saving it to start testing the rule.

  • In the test screen, fill out Client, Location and Product respectively, and click on Search to see the inventory lines.

  • Select the inventory line and click on Test button.

  • Check the results.

    • An assigned location which is E-1-1 has been suggested for SKU_300.
