Which ports and permissions Nearo requires

Learn which network ports and device permissions Nearo needs and how to approve them on your computer.

Updated over 3 months ago

Nearo needs a small set of network access and device permissions to support live audio, video, screen sharing, and remote control.

Network ports Nearo uses

Nearo is designed to work on most home, school, and office networks without special configuration.

  • Nearo uses standard outbound internet traffic over HTTPS.

  • Port 443 (TCP) must be allowed for outbound connections.

  • No inbound ports need to be opened.

  • Nearo does not require port forwarding.

πŸ”” If you are on a restricted network, such as a school or corporate firewall, outbound traffic on port 443 must be permitted for Nearo to connect.

Permissions Nearo requires

To function correctly, Nearo may ask for permission to access the following features on your computer:

  • Microphone for audio

  • Camera for video

  • Screen recording or screen sharing

  • Accessibility or input control for remote control sessions

If any of these permissions are blocked, parts of Nearo may not work as expected.

Approving permissions on a Windows computer

You can review and approve Nearo’s permissions directly in Windows settings.

  • Open Settings.

  • Select Privacy & security.

  • Choose the permission you want to review, such as Microphone, Camera, or Screen recording.

  • Make sure access is turned on and that the Nearo app is allowed.

  • If using remote control, confirm that accessibility or input permissions are enabled if prompted.

πŸ’‘ If Nearo was open when you changed a permission, fully close the app and reopen it.

Approving permissions on an Apple computer (macOS)

macOS requires explicit approval for audio, video, screen sharing, and remote control.

  • Open System Settings.

  • Select Privacy & Security.

  • Review and enable access for Microphone, Camera, and Screen Recording.

  • For remote control, open Accessibility and allow the Nearo app.

  • If Nearo appears disabled, toggle it on and confirm when prompted.

πŸ”” You may need to quit and reopen Nearo after changing permissions for them to take effect.

If permissions are blocked by your network

If you are using Nearo on a managed device or restricted network:

  • Contact your IT administrator and ask them to allow outbound traffic on port 443.

  • Share that Nearo requires microphone, camera, screen recording, and accessibility permissions for full functionality.

If you continue to have trouble after approving ports and permissions, contact Nearo support and include your operating system, network type, and the feature that is not working.
