How do I use text-to-give with an Events page?

Using the texting tools included within Donor Management is a great way to collect ongoing donations towards your event; it's a convenient way for attendees and participants to make a donation directly from their phone is just a few simple clicks.

Please review the steps below to learn how those texting tools work directly with your event - and how to encourage your attendees to take advantage of this tool with ease.

Step 1: Make sure that your texting capabilities are correctly set up.

There are certain steps that must be taken to ensure that you can use the texting communication tools that come with Donor Management.

We strongly recommend taking a moment to make sure that everything is set up correctly in your system prior to the event, to minimize any issues that your participants might have during your actual event.

Step 2: Select the Events page you'd like text-to-give to correspond with.

You'll first want to go to your "Settings" tab from the left-hand navigation menu, then select the option for "Your Organization."

You'll then want to scroll down to the section labeled "Text-to-Give Settings." If you've already registered your Text-to-Give phone number, you should see a drop-down menu that includes all of your active donation pages (including Events pages).

You can then select which of those pages you'd like to direct your donors to after they send the word "GIVE" or "DONATE" to your registered number, and click "Save & Exit" at the top of the page to confirm your choice.

You can select any of your active Everyday Giving pages, or active Events pages. If you do not have any active pages, you will see a message with a link that will direct you to Fundraising Pages, so that you can set up a corresponding page to link.

You can also follow the steps found here to select the correct Events page that your participants should receive if they use the text-to-give tool within Donor Management.

Step 3: Provide your participants with your text-to-give phone number.

Whether you provide your attendees with the phone number prior to the event, or you display the phone number periodically over the course of the event itself, you'll want to be sure to share that phone number multiple times. That way, attendees can easily reference (and text!) that number throughout the night - or even after the event has concluded, in some cases.

Step 4: Encourage your participants to text the phone number!

Your attendees will want to sent the word "GIVE" or "DONATE" to your text-to-give phone number. They should then receive an immediate text back, with a link to the mobile version of the page you've selected - in this case, your Events page.

Your participant can then complete their donation directly from their phone; the donation then will be processed and disbursed to your organization like any other donation that was made through your fundraising tools.

Your attendees will also receive an automated tax receipt via email immediately after they use the text-to-give feature; additionally, first-time donors will have their information automatically added to Donor Management, and existing donors' records will also be updated with any new donation made through texting. You'll just need to make sure that the email address the donor used to complete their online donation matches the email address you have listed for them in your system!
