Troubleshooting
Descriptions and solutions to common Handy problems.
Common Wi-Fi Connection Issues
Common Wi-Fi Connection Issues
The Handy cannot find my Wi-Fi network
The Handy chipset can only detect Wi-Fi signals on the 2.4 GHz band. While most routers should be broadcasting both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signals, it is possible that your router may have 2.4 GHz broadcasting disabled. We recommend turning it on through your router settings and trying the Handy setup again.
The Handyverse app doesn’t detect my Handy
The Handyverse app can only detect the Handy when it is set to Bluetooth mode. Set your Handy to Bluetooth mode by pressing and holding the Wi-Fi button .
Handys using legacy Firmware 2 do not have a Bluetooth mode and must use the Wi-Fi Setup Mode.
I completed the Wi-Fi setup but my Handy is not connecting to the Internet when I turn it on
Every time you turn on the Handy it will start in offline mode by default. You will need to click the Wi-Fi button to get your Handy online.
I cannot connect my Handy to the Wi-Fi in a hotel or another public network
It is not possible to connect the Handy to managed networks, like a hotel or an office building, where you do not have credentials for the Wi-Fi router.
Legacy Firmware 2 Issues
My smartphone or laptop cannot find the Handy setup Wi-Fi
Make sure that you press and hold the Wi-Fi button until the LED blinks blue and light blue to enter Setup Mode. Simply clicking the Wi-Fi button will not do anything until you configure your Handy with your Wi-Fi.
If your Handy is in Setup Mode, but you can’t detect the Handy Setup Wi-Fi network, try using another Wi-Fi-capable device.
My Wi-Fi credentials are correct but my Handy doesn’t connect (flashing red and blue)
Some network configurations may cause the first Handy connection right after setup to fail. In this case, you should simply unplug your Handy, plug it in again, and click the Wi-Fi button once. Your Handy has saved the Wi-Fi credentials you entered into it during setup, so it will attempt to reconnect to your network. Try this up to three times.
Additionally, older versions of the Handy software had a bug that prevented them from connecting to wireless networks that had non-ASCII symbols (e.g. @, {, %, $, -, _, etc.) in the network’s name or password. Newer versions of the firmware do not have this issue. If you’re facing this issue, we recommend that you change your Wi-Fi password to something that includes only numbers and letters, then connect your Handy and update its firmware, then change your network password again.

Caring for the Handy
Caring for the Handy
As a mechanical device, the Handy will need some maintenance to live a long and fruitful life.
Lubricating the Handy
Your Handy contains gears that require maintenance for continued smooth operation. When you receive your Handy, the lead screw comes pre-lubricated with BX-303/0, a food-grade silencer grease, which should last for some time.
Extensive use and long sessions with the Handy will cause the lubricant to dry up faster. Your Handy will continue to work just fine; however, you may notice additional mechanical sound coming from the machine.
Steps for Applying Lubricant
You do not have to disassemble the Handy to apply lubricant.
Buy a high viscosity grease, like one recommended for 3D printers or CNC machines. We cannot recommend a specific brand due to different regulations around the world.
Move the Handy slider all the way down manually.
Apply a thin layer of grease on the metal screw that can be seen through the slit of the Handy.
Manually move the slider up and down about 10 times to distribute the lubricant.
Move the slider all the way to the top.
Apply another layer of grease on the part of the screw that was covered up previously. Do not apply much grease, as it will be thrown off when the Handy is in operation.
Manually move the slider up and down another 10 times to distribute the lubricant.
Power on your Handy and set it to move at full stroke and at the slowest speed for about 5 minutes.
Tips
A Q-tip or a similar tool is a great way to apply lubricant onto the Handy screw.
It is better to do the lubrication procedure often than to apply too much lubricant.
Remember to clean up any excess lubricant from the procedure. Some lubricants may not be body safe and should be removed before using the Handy.
Caring for the Sleeve
The Handy TrueGrip sleeve is made out of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). Its longevity will be based on the use and the cleaning it is given. TPE material is porous and in time will begin to develop a yellow tint, which is a sign that the sleeve should be replaced.
You can improve the lifetime of the sleeve by washing it immediately after using it with warm water and soap. It can easily be flipped inside-out without damage to the material. Additionally, while not in use, we recommend that you keep the sleeve in an airtight bag, with the foam insert placed inside so that the sleeve can keep its shape.
You can order additional TrueGrip sleeves (in closed and open style) at The Handy shop.
Replacing the Band
As with all velcro products, the fastening strength of the TrueGrip band will decline with exposure to dirt and other particles. The band can be washed with water to clean off any lube or other dried material.
You can order additional TrueGrip bands at The Handy shop.
Fluids in the Handy
The electronics inside the Handy have a thin protective layer that will shield them from fluids like semen and lube. Avoid getting liquids into the machine. However, a small amount of liquid should not cause any operational issues with your Handy.
In the case that you drop a lot of liquids into the machine, turn off the Handy and leave it with the slider facing down for 6 hours before using it again.
Heat Considerations
The Handy is designed to automatically shut off before hitting temperatures that can hurt the user or damage the machine.
Warranty
The Handy comes with a one-year warranty. If you are experiencing issues with your Handy, reach out to contact@thehandy.com and we’ll assist you.

In-browser Video Playback
In-browser Video Playback
Overview
The Interactive Video Database (IVDB) is a collection of Handy-compatible scripts covering 1400+ videos. This guide describes how to install the Handy IVDB browser extension and have synchronized video playback within your browser.
For synchronization to work, you will need both a video file and a script file (or script token).
Steps
Go to the Google Chrome store page for the Handy IVDB Extension and install the extension. You may need to sign in to your Google account due to the age restriction on the extension.
Open the extension in your browser and enter your Handy connection key. Your Handy must be in Online Mode to connect.
Go to ivdb.io. Read and accept the terms and conditions.
Browse for a video and click on it.
On the video page, the browser extension should automatically detect the video and send the related script to your Handy. This should be reflected in the icon of the browser extension with the Script bubble.
Common Issues and Limitations
Remember: your Handy must be in Online Mode and you must enter your connection key in the Handy IVDB browser extension.
The Handy IVDB browser extension is only available for Google Chrome (and Chrome-based browsers).
Mobile versions of common browsers do not offer the same capabilities for extensions and plug-ins as their desktop counterparts and as such cannot be used with IVDB.
The plug-in may not work if you are using a translation extension, which may rename the elements that appear in the browser, causing the IVDB browser extension to incorrectly retrieve information on the page.
Premium scripts and videos will not be accessible to you unless you have a subscription to the relevant video partner.
