eNotary Stamp Requirements (States O-W)

eNotary stamp is a digital representation of the notary's ink stamp. It can be circular or rectangular. Here are a few tips to make sure the eNotary stamp complies with the State and platform requirements:

  • The eNotary Stamp needs to have the information specified exactly as indicated on the notary public's commission certificate:

    • Notary public name

    • Notary's commission number

    • Notary's commission expiration date

  • Make sure the stamp is designed per the state requirements

    • Includes all required wording

    • Includes all required graphic elements

    • Excludes all not allowed elements

  • The stamp is saved in a .png format with a transparent background since some notarized forms may have a colored background

  • Recommended stamp dimensions are 500x200 or 240x240

  • No vendor logo, no photo, nor any other additional information is included

State-Specific Notary Stamp Requirements

A-K L-N O-W

Ohio (OH)

Circular or rectangular. The stamp must include:

  • The Great Stamp of the State of Ohio

  • The notary’s name as it appears on the notarial commission

  • The words “Notary Public”

  • The words “State of Ohio”

Optional:

  • The commission expiration date

Oklahoma (OK)

Circular or rectangular. The stamp must include:

  • The notary’s name as it appears on the notarial commission

  • The words “Notary Public”

  • The words “State of Oklahoma”

Optional:

  • The commission number

  • The commission expiration date

Oregon (OR)

Circular or rectangular. The stamp must include:

  • The Great Stamp of Oregon

  • The words “Official Stamp”

  • The notary’s name as it appears on the notarial commission

  • The words “Notary Public–Oregon”

  • The words “Commission No.” followed by the commission number

  • The words “My Commission Expires” followed by the commission expiration date (Month spelled out, two-digit day, four-digit year)

Pennsylvania (PA)

Rectangular only. The stamp must include, in the following order:

  • The words “Commonwealth of Pennsylvania”

  • The words “Notary Stamp”

  • The notary’s name as it appears on the notarial commission, followed by the words “Notary Public”

  • The name of the county where the notary maintains an office

  • The notary’s commission expiration date

  • The notary’s commission number

Rhode Island (RI)

Circular or rectangular. The stamp must include:

  • An edge border

  • The notary’s name exactly as it appears on the notarial commission

  • The words “Notary Public”

  • The words “Rhode Island”

Optional:

  • The commission ID number

  • The commission expiration date

South Carolina (SC)

Circular or rectangular. The stamp must include:

  • The notary’s name exactly as it appears on the notarial commission

  • The title “Notary Public”

  • The words “State of South Carolina”

  • The electronic notary’s registration number

  • The electronic notary’s commission expiration date

South Dakota (SD)

Circular or rectangular. The stamp must include:

  • The notary’s name exactly as it appears on the notarial comission

  • The words “Notary Public”

  • The word “Seal” within the border

  • The words “South Dakota”

  • A border fully surrounding the imprint

Additional:

  • The words “My Commission Expires” and/or the commission expiration date must not appear inside the border, but may be placed outside the border

Tennessee (TN)

Circular, square, or rectangular. The stamp must include:

  • The notary’s name as it appears on the notarial commission (printed at the top)

  • The county of election (printed at the bottom)

  • The words “Tennessee Notary Public” (printed in the center)

  • The words “Online Notary Public” (printed below the center text)

  • A statement of the notary’s commission expiration date

Texas (TX)

Circular or rectangular with a serrated or milled-edge border. The stamp must include:

  • The words “Notary Public, State of Texas” surrounding a five-pointed star

  • The notary’s name as it appears on the notarial commission

  • The notary’s ID number

  • The notary’s commission expiration date

Utah (UT)

Rectangular only. The stamp must include:

  • The Great Seal of the State of Utah

  • The notary’s name exactly as it appears on the notarial commission

  • The words “Notary Public,”

  • The words “State of Utah”

  • The notary’s commission number

  • The words “My commission expires on” followed by the commission expiration date

Virginia (VA)

Virginia notary public eNotary stamp must have:

  • Your name as it appears on your commission

  • The words "Electronic Notary Public"

  • The words "Commonwealth of Virginia"

  • Commission (registration) number

  • Commission expiration date

Example:

Washington (WA)

Washington notary public eNotary stamp can be circular or rectangular. The stamp must have:

  • Your name as it appears on your commission

  • The words "Notary Public"

  • The words "State of Washington"

  • Commission number

  • Commission expiration date

Prohibited:

  • Use of the Great Stamp of the State of Washington on the notary stamp

Example:

Wisconsin (WI)

Wisconsin notary public eNotary stamp must have:

  • The words "State of Wisconsin"

  • The words "Notary Public"

  • Your complete legal last name as it appears on your commission

  • No titles like "Atty." or "Esq." can be included

Optional:

  • You may use initials or a shortened first name

West Virginia (WV)

West Virginia notary public eNotary stamp must have:

  • The words "Official Stamp"

  • The words "Electronic Notary Public"

  • The words "State of West Virginia"

  • Your name as it appears on your commission

  • Your address as it appears on your commission

  • Commission expiration date

  • An image of the West Virginia State Stamp

  • Commission number
