The Programs tab on the View Student Data page makes it easy to monitor students participating in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, including those earning Industry-Recognized Credentials (IRCs), completing Work-Based Learning (WBL) experiences, and engaging in STEM initiatives. Use this tab to document student progress in CTE pathways, record WBL placements and hours, and maintain centralized records of IRC achievements. These tools help districts support career readiness, meet state reporting requirements, and provide students with clear pathways toward future education and employment.

What Are Industry-Recognized Credentials?

Industry-Recognized Credentials (IRCs) are certifications awarded by accrediting bodies, trade associations, or professional organizations to validate a student’s expertise in a specific field of study.

In jmc, Program History records—accessible on the Programs tab of the View Student Data page—document a student’s CTE program participation and earned credentials. This information connects each student’s IRC to both their school and the state of Iowa for accurate tracking and reporting.

  • Program: A drop-down list identifying the record as part of the Industry-Recognized Credential CTE program.

  • Credential Category: A drop-down list of state-defined CTE content areas.

  • Credential: A drop-down list of state-recognized IRC codes and descriptions.

What Are Work-Based Learning Experiences?

Work-Based Learning (WBL) refers to structured, real-world learning experiences in which students apply academic and technical skills in a workplace setting.

In jmc, WBL participation is documented by creating a Program History record on the Programs tab of the View Student Data page. This record includes the type of experience, subject area, and program, connecting each student’s participation to both their school and the Iowa Department of Education for accurate tracking and reporting.

  • Program: A drop-down list identifying the record as part of a Work-Based Learning program.

  • Subject Area: A drop-down list of state-defined WBL content areas or fields of study.

  • Experience: A drop-down list identifying the type of WBL experience, such as internship, industry partnership, student learner program, or other structured workplace learning opportunity.

What is STEM Participation?

STEM participation records allow schools to track students engaged in STEM-related coursework, experiences, or programs aligned with state STEM education priorities.

In jmc, STEM participation is documented through Program History records on the Programs tab of the View Student Data page. Recording STEM participation alongside IRC and WBL data provides a comprehensive view of student involvement over time and supports accurate state reporting requirements.
