Add benchmark instances to provide teachers with access to the standards and benchmarks they need in the jmc Teacher portal. By linking a benchmark to a specific grade level or course, the appropriate advisor or teacher automatically gains gradebook access to record and report student progress using tools like the Scores gradebook, the Competency Based Gradebook, or standards-based report cards.

To get started, head to Standards and Benchmarks > Definitions > Edit Benchmark Instances in jmc Office.

Step One: Select the "Subject Area," "Standard," "Benchmark Group," and "Benchmark" from the drop-down lists to begin creating a benchmark instance.

Step Two: Click the "Add" button to create a new instance, or select an existing instance and click the "Edit" button to update teacher access to the benchmark.

Step Three: Choose the appropriate radio button to specify how teachers access benchmarks:

  • Grade Level: Teacher gradebook access to the selected benchmark applies to advisors of students in the selected grade level. This option works well when entering summative results directly on a standards-based report card.

  • Course: Teacher gradebook access to the selected benchmark applies to teachers assigned to the selected course. Use this option when tracking student learning on the Scores page or in the Competency Based Gradebook.

Step Four: Click a grade level or course name, or hold the CTRL (Windows) or CMD (Mac) key while clicking to select multiple options and provide benchmark access.

Step Five: Click the "Save All" button to apply teacher access to all benchmarks in the "Benchmark" drop-down list, or click the "Save Current" button to apply access only to the displayed benchmark. Click the "Cancel" button to discard your changes.

Helpful Tip: To remove benchmark access for a specific course or grade level, select it from the "Grade/Course - Instance Text" list and click the "Delete" button.
