Scanner app — How to process Reward cards

Learn how to add bonus points and redeem rewards on customer Reward cards using the Scanner app.

Overview

When a customer makes a purchase, you enter the purchase amount in the Scanner app. The system automatically calculates how many points to award based on your reward card rules and adds them to the customer's balance. When a customer accumulates enough points to unlock a reward, you can redeem it directly from the scanner.


Finding the customer

Option 1: Scan the card

  1. Open the Scanner app and tap Scan.

  2. Grant camera access if prompted.

  3. Point your camera at the customer's QR code or barcode.

Option 2: Search for the customer

  1. Tap Search Customers on the home screen.

  2. Search by name, phone number, email, or card serial number.

  3. Select the correct customer and card from the results.

After scanning or finding the customer, their Reward card is displayed — including current point balance, available rewards, last accrual date, and card serial number.


Adding bonus points

  1. Enter the customer's purchase amount in the Enter Purchase Amount field.

  2. Optionally add an internal comment on the transaction (the customer will not see this).

  3. Tap Add Points. The system automatically calculates the points based on your reward card rules.

  4. Tap Done.

For example, if a customer has 10 points and you add 10 more, their balance updates to 20. If the next reward tier requires 50 points, they'll need 30 more to unlock it.


Redeeming a reward

When a customer has accumulated enough points to unlock a reward, it becomes available in the scanner.

  1. Scan or search for the customer's card.

  2. Tap the Redeem tab.

  3. All available rewards are displayed. Select the reward you want to redeem.

  4. Tap Redeem Reward.

  5. Enter the cost price of the reward if required by your card settings.

  6. Optionally add an internal comment.

  7. Tap to confirm the transaction.

  8. Tap Done.

The reward is marked as used and the corresponding points are deducted. If you scan the card again, the rewards section will reflect the updated status.

For example, a customer has 50 points and unlocks a "30% coupon for the next purchase" reward. You redeem it, the points are deducted, and the customer's reward count returns to zero. They can continue earning points toward the next reward.


Viewing customer information

Below the transaction buttons, the scanner displays the customer's current card information, including:

  • Customer details (name, phone, email — as provided during card installation)

  • Current point balance

  • Available rewards

  • Last accrual date

  • Card serial number

  • Card installation date

The exact fields displayed may vary depending on your card configuration.


FAQs

How are points calculated?

Points are calculated automatically based on the purchase amount and the rules you configured in your reward card settings (spend-based, visit-based, or custom rules). You only need to enter the purchase amount.

How do I know if a customer has an available reward?

After scanning, the scanner shows the number of available rewards. Tap the Redeem tab to see which specific rewards are unlocked.

Can I redeem multiple rewards at once?

You can redeem one reward at a time. Scan the card again after each redemption to process additional rewards if available.

Can I leave a note on a transaction?

Yes. When adding points or redeeming a reward, you can add an internal comment. This is only visible to you and your staff.

What happens to the points after a reward is redeemed?

The corresponding points are deducted from the customer's balance. They can continue earning points toward the next reward tier.
