The PLAATO Connect broadcasts the WiFi network that the PLAATO Pro connects to. It enables the PLAATO Pro to transmit data to the cloud over WiFi.

It is essential that the PLAATO Connect is able to communicate with the PLAATO Pro. If the signal strength between the devices is sub-optimal, you might experience lost or delayed data.

The key factors that impact your Wifi Coverage are as follows:

1. Distance

Much like how the volume of a speaker decreases the farther you are from it, the strength of a WiFi signal diminishes with distance. In other words, the farther the PLAATO Connect from the PLAATO Pro, the harder it will be for the devices to communicate and transmit data effectively. This increases the chance of lost or delayed data which in turn will affecting the reliability of your fermentation monitoring.

2. Obstacles

Imagine you're trying to listen to music, but there's a wall between you and the speaker. The music won't be as clear, right? Similarly, physical barriers like walls, machinery, or even large liquid tanks can act as obstructions that 'muffle' the WiFi signal. Obstacles can reduce signal strength, affecting the speed and reliability of data transmission between your PLAATO devices.

Material Matters: Different materials have different impacts. For example, a metal wall will block the signal more than a wooden one.

Recommendations for optimal distance and placement

Relocate: If you're experiencing a weak connection, try moving the PLAATO Connect closer to the PLAATO Pro, ideally with line of sight. If moving the PLAATO Connect isn't feasible, or if you've got multiple fermentation tanks spread across a large area, you could try installing an extender. Elevate: Elevating your PLAATO Connect can help it 'communicate' better. Placing it above fermentation tanks and machinery minimizes the number of obstructions and can improve your WiFi signal strength.

Minimize physical barriers: If you wouldn't put a wall between a speaker and a listener, why do it with your devices? Ensure that there are as few obstructions as possible in the line of sight between your PLAATO Connect and PLAATO Pro.

Optimal Placement Example

For the most effective setup, consider placing the PLAATO Connect centrally above your fermentation tanks, elevated to ensure it is above most obstructions. This is akin to positioning a speaker at the center of a ceiling in a conference room, allowing for the 'sound' to disperse evenly and be 'heard' by all devices.

In this optimal setup:

  • Elevation: Being above the tanks and machinery reduces the chances of signal 'muffling'.

  • Central Position: This minimizes the distance to any given PLAATO Pro, reducing the chances of lost or delayed data.

  • Clear Line-of-Sight: Try to minimize obstructions between the PLAATO Connect and any PLAATO Pro devices for the best 'hearing' conditions.

By adhering to these guidelines, you're setting the stage for efficient and reliable communication between your PLAATO devices, leading to more accurate and real-time monitoring of your fermentation process.
