The Groups screen is where you see your club's entire structure of Sections and Groups in one place. Before getting into the screen itself, it's worth understanding how these two building blocks differ.
Groups and Sections: what's the difference?
A Group is where members actually live. It's what you add people to so you can message them, invite them to events, or manage them as a team, like "U13 Basketball" or "Cricket Captains."
A Section is a container for organizing related Groups together. It doesn't hold members itself, only Groups. Sections exist purely to keep a large club structure easy to browse. For example, a "Captains" Section might contain both your Cricket Captains and Football Captains Groups.
Putting that together:
Members go inside Groups.
Groups can optionally be nested inside a Section to keep related ones together.
A Group can only sit in one Section at a time, or stand alone at the top level with no Section at all.
A Section can't be nested inside another Section, and a Group can't be nested inside another Group.
If you're only managing a handful of teams, you may never need a Section, standalone Groups work fine on their own. Sections become useful once you have enough Groups that a flat list gets hard to scan.
What you'll see on the Groups screen
All Members always appears first, pinned at the top. This is a system Group containing everyone in your club. It has no expand/collapse chevron and can't be edited, deleted, or moved.
Sections appear as rows with a chevron (∨ collapsed, ∧ expanded) you tap to reveal or hide the Groups nested inside.
Standalone Groups appear at the top level with no chevron and no indentation.
Nested Groups inside an expanded Section are visually indented beneath it.
Every Section and Group row shows its name, description, and member count.
Tip: A Section's member count is deduplicated. If the same member is in two different Groups nested under the same Section, they're only counted once, not twice.
Getting around
Tap a Section's chevron to expand or collapse it. This is purely visual and doesn't move anything or affect membership.
Tap Manage to edit, delete, or reorder your Sections and Groups.
Tap + Add New to create a new Group or Section.
Your expand/collapse state is remembered for the rest of your session, but resets the next time you open the app.
FAQ
What's the actual difference between a Group and a Section again?
A Group holds members. A Section holds Groups. You can't put a member directly into a Section, and you can't nest a Section inside another Section.
Why can't I see my Groups?
They're likely nested inside a collapsed Section. Tap that Section's chevron to expand it.
Does expanding or collapsing a Section change anything for my club?
No. It only changes how the list displays for you right now. It has no effect on Groups, Sections, or membership.
