Overview
This article explains how to create dine-in and takeout orders in Platter POS, route them to the kitchen (KDS), and finalize payments. It also includes the quick-service workflow and essential order functions, including adding items, applying modifications, and deleting items.
Prerequisites
Before beginning, ensure the following setup is completed in the Back Office:
Floor plan created
Menu, categories, and items added
KDS (Kitchen Display System)
CFD (Customer Facing Display)
Payment gateway configured
Printers configured
Taxes set up
SMS configuration completed
Team members added with permissions for:
Floor plan access
Order taking
Sending orders
Payments
Promotions
Dine-In Orders
Steps
Open the POS Home Screen.
Enter your login credentials or PIN.
Tap Clock In to start your shift.
Open Floor Plan
Select a Table
View Menu
Add Items
Send Order to KDS
Tap Send Order (bottom-right).
The order will be sent to the KDS.
The Send button will change colour to indicate it has been sent.
To view the order on Platter KDS, staff must be logged into the KDS screen.
Delete Items
Swipe left on an item in the order list to remove it.
Takeout & Quick Takeout Orders
Steps
Log in and clock in from the POS Home Screen.
Open Takeout Screen
New Takeout Order
Tap New Order.
Choose Takeout (pickup) or Delivery.
Enter:
Tap Take Order to open the menu.
Add items and send the order to KDS.
Quick Takeout
Tap Quick Order.
No customer details or table required.
The menu opens immediately.
Take the order and send it to KDS.
Ideal for fast-service environments.
Payments
Steps
Add Discount
Inside the order screen, tap Discount.
Choose from the list of discounts configured by the admin in the Promotions module.
Charge the Order
Select Payment Method
Available options:
Cash - The customer pays the full bill amount using physical currency.
Card - The bill is paid using a debit or credit card through the payment terminal.
Check - The customer settles the bill by providing a check as payment.
Gift Card - Payment is made using a prepaid gift card balance.
Service Charge - The amount is charged to a predefined service account.
You can also print or send a digital receipt to the customer.
After Payment
Troubleshooting
Floor plan not visible: Confirm that the Floor plan is created and published in the Back Office.
Cannot send to KDS: Check KDS setup and login status.
Items not showing: Verify item visibility and category settings.
Payment options missing: Confirm payment gateway and role permissions.
