Overview
This article explains how to create a basic order on an iPad using Platter POS. Platter lets you quickly start an order, add items, and process payments efficiently.
Platter POS uses two primary ways to start an order:
A. From the Floor/Table View
B. From the Takeout Screen
Prerequisites
Before placing an order, ensure:
You are logged in to Platter POS with appropriate permissions.
Products, categories, and menus are created in the Dashboard.
Menus are enabled under the device’s App Settings.
Printers are configured for the kitchen/bar.
Table types (Dine-In, Takeout, Delivery) are set up in the Dashboard.
Device service mode has been configured correctly.
Steps
1. Start a New Order
A. Start an Order from the Floor/Table Screen
Use this method when handling dine-in or table-based orders.
B. Start a Takeout Order
Use this method for walk-in takeout or delivery-style orders.
Tap the Takeout section on the POS.
Select the appropriate order type: Takeout, Delivery, and Quick Takeout.
A new takeout order will open automatically.
2. Select a Category
Select a category from the top left-hand side.
If multiple menus exist (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner), use the Menu Selector at the top of the category list.
3. Add Items to the Order
Tap any item to add it to the order.
The item will appear on the order receipt panel with:

Tap on checkout directly from the order screen.
For transactions, choose from the list below.
Confirm payment to complete the order.
Troubleshooting
Takeout button not visible
Confirm the device is assigned to a profile that enables Takeout.
Verify Takeout/Delivery table types are set in the Dashboard.
Categories or items are missing
Ensure menus are enabled in the device profile app settings.
Confirm the items are active and assigned to the correct categories.
The order is not printing in the kitchen
Ensure printer templates are assigned to product categories.
Check network connectivity for printers.
Payment button not working
Verify payment methods are enabled in device settings.
Make sure the user has the Payments permission.
The order disappeared after closing
Check active orders under:
The Floor Plan
The Takeout screen
