Overview

The menu and Items section in the Platter Back Office (Cuisine Hub) is where you create, organize, and manage all the products your restaurant sells. This includes menu items, categories, modifiers, and pricing. From here, you can add new items, update existing ones, assign printer routing, and structure your menu for efficient ordering in the Platter POS.

This section is essential for ensuring your menu is accurate, clear, and optimized for both staff and customers. Whether you are adding new dishes, updating seasonal specials, or managing multi-location menus, Cuisine Hub provides the tools needed to keep your POS menu up to date.

Prerequisites

Before managing menus and items in Platter:

Steps

1. Accessing Menus & Items (Cuisine Hub)

  1. Log in to the Platter Back Office.

  2. From the left navigation menu, click Cuisine Hub.

  3. Select Menu Items to view your complete item list.

2. Understanding Menu Management Sections

A. Categories (Accounting Groups Equivalent)

  • Categories help organize your items.

  • Each category can have:

    • Enter the name of the category.

    • Choose the menu where you want to display the category.

    • And select the type of taxes you want to apply to that category

    • Example: Appetizers, Beverages, Entrees, Desserts

B. Item List

In Platter, each item includes the following details:

  • Name

  • Display Name

  • Category

  • Tax

  • Modifiers

  • Add-ons

  • Description

  • UOM (Unit of Measure)

  • Visible

Pricing Details

Each item supports multiple pricing fields:

  • Dine-in Price

  • Takeout Price

  • Delivery Price

  • Cost of Production – Used for cost tracking and reporting

Variants (Item Sizes & Multiple Prices)

Platter allows you to create item variants to support different sizes or subcategories, such as Small, Medium, and Large, each with its own pricing.

  • Click Add Variant to create a new size or variation

  • Assign a variant name and individual prices for that variant

  • You can add multiple variants for a single item

To remove a variant:

  • Click Delete Variant next to the variant you want to remove

Saving the Item

  • Once all details and variants are configured, click Submit

  • The item will be saved and made available based on its visibility setting

C. Modifiers

Modifiers in Platter allow you to add customization options to your menu items. These can be extra add-ons, choices, or preparation instructions that appear on the POS when staff select an item.

When you click Add modifier, you will see the following options.

1. Name

This is the title of your modifier group.


Examples:

  • Spice Level

  • Toppings

  • Side Options

2. Options

These are the actual choices inside the modifier group.

You type the name (e.g., “Mild”) and then click Add options to add more.

Examples:

  • Spice Level - Mild, Medium, Hot

  • Toppings - Extra Cheese, Extra Onion, Jalapeño

  • Bread Choice - White, Brown, Multigrain

3. Categories

Choose a category (like “Appetizers”, “Entrees”, “Beverages”) if you want all items in that category to use this modifier automatically.

If you select a category, every item in that category will display this modifier.

4. Items

If you do not want a whole category, select specific items.

Example:


Only the “Clubhouse Sandwich” should have "Cheese Options".

5. Additional Options

Mandatory modifier

Checked mark: This indicates that customers must choose an option before proceeding.


Useful for things like size, cooking style, and spice level.

Multi-select values

Allows selecting more than one option.


Useful for toppings - e.g., Extra Onion, Cheese.

Global modifier

Makes this modifier appear for all items in your entire account.

Visible

If unchecked, the modifier is hidden from POS.

6. Submit

Click Submit to save the modifier.

Troubleshooting

Item not showing on POS

  • Check if the item is Active

  • Confirm the item is assigned to the correct Category

  • Verify the menu is assigned to the POS

  • Reload the POS device configuration

The wrong item price appears

  • Confirm the correct Price List is linked to your location

  • Check if the item has multiple price rules

  • Reload the POS

Modifiers not appearing

  • Ensure the modifier group is assigned to the item

  • Confirm the modifier group is Active

Items are not printing to the kitchen

  • Verify printer routing under the item’s category

  • Check the assigned printer’s IP and port

  • Ensure the printer is online and connected to the same network
