Creating and editing items

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Overview

Items in Platter represent the food, beverages, and add-ons available on your restaurant’s menu. Each item can be configured with a name, price, category, and modifier options. You can also update existing items at any time directly from the Platter Back Office.

All item creation and editing is done inside Cuisine Hub > Menu Items.

Prerequisites

Before creating or editing items, ensure:

  • You have Admin or Manager access in Platter Back Office.

  • Your menu categories are already created.

  • Your printers are set up so that items routed to the Kitchen or Bar are printed.

  • Your POS devices are online and synced with the latest settings.

Steps

1. Creating a New Item

To add a new food or beverage item to your menu:

  1. Log in to Platter Back Office.

  2. Go to Cuisine Hub > Items.

  3. Click Add Item.

  4. Enter the mandatory details:

    • Item Name

    • Price

    • Category

    • Description

    • Modifiers

    • Addons

    • Price & Variants:

Within the Price section, you can:

      • Set the item’s base price

      • Enable different pricing for takeout and delivery

      • Define the UOM (Unit of Measurement)

      • Enter the cost of production

To create multiple sizes or variations of the same item, use Variants:

      • Select Add Variant to add options such as Small, Medium, or Large

      • Enter a variant name

      • Assign separate prices for dine-in, takeout, and delivery

      • Specify the cost of production for each variant

You can add multiple variants, allowing each size or version of the item to be priced independently.

  5. Click Submit.

2. Creating Detailed Items

If you want to configure more settings while creating an item:

  1. Open Cuisine Hub > Items.

  2. Click Add Item.

  3. Fill out advanced fields as needed:

    • Modifiers / Add-ons

    • Item description

    • Tax selection

    • The Price & Variants section allows users to set multiple prices based on item size by using variants. Users can define a variant name (such as Small, Medium, or Large) and assign different prices for each size, including dine-in, takeout, and delivery, along with the production cost. This makes it easy to manage size-based pricing within a single item.

  4. Click Submit.

3. Editing an Existing Item

To make changes to an already created item:

  1. Go to Cuisine Hub > Items.

  2. Click on the item you wish to edit.

  3. Update any information, such as:

    • Item name

    • Price

    • Category

    • Assigned modifiers

    • Price and variant

  4. Click submit.
