Basic ordering on an iPhone

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Overview

Platter POS supports order-taking on iPhone and iPod devices, offering a fast and flexible solution for restaurants that rely on mobile ordering. The ordering experience is similar to an iPad but optimized for a smaller screen layout.

This article explains how to start an order, browse products, add items, and send orders using a handheld device.

Prerequisites

Before placing orders on an iPhone or iPod, ensure:

  • You are logged in using your PIN

  • Menus and categories are enabled in the device’s app settings

  • The device profile supports iPhone/iPod layouts

  • Products, categories, and printers are configured in the Dashboard

  • Network connection is active for sending items to the kitchen/bar

Steps

1. Start a New Order

  1. Open Platter POS on the iPhone/iPod.

  2. From the Tables screen, tap a table to begin a new order.

    • If using table types (Dine-In, Takeout, Delivery), select the correct type.

  3. The Order screen will appear.

2. Browse Categories and Products

Depending on your device settings, product browsing works in two ways:

  • The first category’s products are shown automatically.

  • Swipe right to reveal the category list.

  • Swipe up and down to browse through categories.

  • Tap a category to view its products.

B. If the Setting Is Disabled

  • All products from all categories are displayed in a feed-style layout.

  • Swipe up and down to browse through all products.

3. Add Items to the Order

  1. Tap a product to select it.

  2. Tap the + button to add the item to the order.

  3. Use + or – buttons to adjust quantity.

4. View the Order

  • Tap View Order to open the order summary panel.

5. Send Items to Kitchen/Bar

  1. Tap Send Kitchen or Send Bar.

  2. Sent items will appear greyed out, indicating they’ve been printed or transmitted.

6. Process Payment

Once all items are added:

  1. Tap Payment from the order screen.

  2. Choose the payment method (cash, card, etc.).

  3. Complete the payment to finalize the order.

7. View All Orders

  • Tap the Orders icon in the bottom navigation bar.

  • This opens the Orders List, where you can view all open and completed orders.
