Overview
Platter POS supports order-taking on iPhone and iPod devices, offering a fast and flexible solution for restaurants that rely on mobile ordering. The ordering experience is similar to an iPad but optimized for a smaller screen layout.
This article explains how to start an order, browse products, add items, and send orders using a handheld device.
Prerequisites
Before placing orders on an iPhone or iPod, ensure:
You are logged in using your PIN
Menus and categories are enabled in the device’s app settings
The device profile supports iPhone/iPod layouts
Products, categories, and printers are configured in the Dashboard
Network connection is active for sending items to the kitchen/bar
Steps
1. Start a New Order
Open Platter POS on the iPhone/iPod.
From the Tables screen, tap a table to begin a new order.
If using table types (Dine-In, Takeout, Delivery), select the correct type.
The Order screen will appear.
2. Browse Categories and Products
Depending on your device settings, product browsing works in two ways:
A. If “Show Only Products in Selected Category” is Enabled
The first category’s products are shown automatically.
Swipe right to reveal the category list.
Swipe up and down to browse through categories.
Tap a category to view its products.
B. If the Setting Is Disabled
All products from all categories are displayed in a feed-style layout.
Swipe up and down to browse through all products.
3. Add Items to the Order
Tap a product to select it.
Tap the + button to add the item to the order.
Use + or – buttons to adjust quantity.

5. Send Items to Kitchen/Bar
Tap Send Kitchen or Send Bar.
Sent items will appear greyed out, indicating they’ve been printed or transmitted.
6. Process Payment
Once all items are added:
Tap Payment from the order screen.
Choose the payment method (cash, card, etc.).
Complete the payment to finalize the order.
7. View All Orders
Tap the Orders icon in the bottom navigation bar.
This opens the Orders List, where you can view all open and completed orders.
Troubleshooting
Categories not visible
Ensure the “Show only products in selected category” setting is configured correctly.
Verify categories are enabled for the device profile.
Items are not being sent to the kitchen
Printers may be offline or disconnected.
The product category may not be linked to a printer template.
Can’t start a new order
The user may lack order-creation permissions.
Table types may not be configured.
PLU/Product ID not working
Product IDs may not be assigned or enabled in Dashboard settings.
