If you run into any issues while attempting to connect Facebook Ads to Polar, follow this step-by-step troubleshooting guide to determine how to resolve the issues and ensure that you Facebook data flows through to Polar.

How-To: Connect Facebook Ads to Polar

Step 1: In order for you to add a Facebook connector to Polar, you must first and foremost be a Polar admin. Go to Settings > Account > My team and make sure you are an admin. If you are not an admin, ask an existing Polar admin from your team to make you an admin.

Step 2: If you are trying to connect a Facebook ad account, you might run into this type of error with the following details (see below). This error could mean you don’t have sufficient permissions on the ad accounts listed in the details (ad accounts 123456789012345 and 010101010101010 in this example). It could also mean that you haven’t granted Polar the right permissions on the business managers that own the ad accounts you want to connect.

If you see this error message, follow the subsequent steps to resolve the error.

Step 3: You must have full admin access to the ad account you are trying to connect and to the business manager that owns the ad account. "Partner" permissions are not sufficient to connect the ad account, so agencies will need to ask their clients to connect their own ad account.

Step 4: Log into your Meta business manager settings and click on Ad accounts.

  • If you get no results by typing in the ad account number, that means you don’t have access to this ad account. In that case you need to “Request access to an ad account” and ask the ad account owner for access to that ad account with the admin role.

  • If you see the ad account when typing in the ad account id, this means you have at least some partial access to the ad account, meaning you can probably see your name in the list of people.

    • If you can’t see your name, you need to ask someone who’s name appears to add you to the ad account, with full permissions, by clicking on “Add People”

    • If you can see your name, click on it and ensure that you have the Manage ad accounts permission toggled on.

      • If this toggle is on, skip to step 5.

      • If this toggle doesn’t appear underneath your name, this means that you don’t have sufficient permissions on the ad account. You must contact the owner of the ad account, or an admin of the ad account, so that they give him an admin role, in order for you to see this toggle.

Step 5: Now that you have “Manage ad accounts” permissions on the ad account you wish to connect to Polar, navigate to your personal Facebook profile’s business integrations page. From there you must click on “View and Edit” next to the Polar Analytics app integration, and ensure all toggles are turned on here, particularly these three.

Step 6: Two situations are possible at this point:

  • Situation A: You already have the “Manage ad accounts” permission AND everything toggled on in the Polar Analytics app integration.

  • Situation B: Either you didn’t have “Manage ad accounts” permission OR didn’t have everything toggled on in the Polar Analytics app integration. You have now proceeded to getting all the necessary permissions on the ad account and have toggled everything we outlined in previous steps.

In both situations, you can now proceed to delete the Polar Analytics app integration from your business integrations in Facebook.

You can then navigate back to Polar, and delete your broken Facebook connector from Polar in the Connectors tab.

Step 7: From here, you can connect your Facebook ad account from scratch, with the right permissions. After clicking on “Add Facebook Ads Account” you will be redirected to Facebook. Go through the steps until you get to the step “Choose the Businesses you want Polar Analytics to access”.

You will need to to let Polar access the businesses that own the ad accounts you are trying to connect. The easiest way to do this is to click on “Opt in to all current and future businesses”.

In the list, you must be able to see the businesses that own the add accounts you want to connect. If you don’t see all the businesses that own the ad accounts you are trying to connect in the list, this means you don’t have access to those businesses, and must ask an admin of those businesses to give you at least Partial access to the business account.

The admin can do this by going to his business settings, clicking on “Add people” and sending you an email invitation to his business account.

Step 8: After completing these steps you will be redirected to Polar. Select the add accounts you want to connect to Polar and click on “Save Changes”. Then click on “Reconnect Account”, you’ll be sent back to Facebook.

Click on the Reconnect button on Facebook and you will be redirected to Polar. Wait for 1 minute while the connector builds, then refresh the Polar connector page and you should see your Facebook connector syncing data to Polar. You’re all set!

Step 9: If the Facebook connector still shows up as broken a few minutes after having connected, please contact our Support Team via the in-app live chat and we'll be happy to assist.
