Guide: Measurements in Projects

This guide walks you through all the current options for handling measurements within projects.

Why Measurements Matter in ProLine

Accurate measurements are the foundation of everything that follows in a project — your quotes, your material orders, and your job costing. Instead of manually calculating quantities every time, ProLine lets you bring measurement data directly into the platform and use it to drive your workflows automatically.

Whether you order reports through one of ProLine's native integrations, import a file from your preferred provider, or enter measurements by hand, the goal is the same: get accurate numbers into ProLine once, and let the platform do the heavy lifting from there.

Before You Start: Set Up Your Measurement Fields

Before using any integration, placing an order, or entering data manually, it's important to understand how measurement fields work in ProLine — because everything maps to them.

ProLine comes preset with the following default fields:

Waste Factor (%), Ridges (LF), Hips (LF), Valleys (LF), Rakes (LF), Eaves (LF), Parapet Walls (LF), Flashing (LF), Step Flashing (LF), Total Area (SF), Electrical Masts (#), Vents (#), Chimneys (#)

These fields are what ProLine uses to store and display measurement data across the platform — in reports, quotes, and material orders. When you connect a native integration or set up a CSV import, you'll be mapping that provider's fields to these ProLine fields.

Need a field that isn't in the default list? You'll need to add it in Company Settings before it becomes available for mapping in any integration. See the full guide here: Company Settings: Measurements – Measurement Report Fields.

💡 Tip: Review and configure your measurement fields before setting up any integration. If a field from your measurement provider doesn't exist in ProLine yet, it won't appear as a mapping option — and that data won't import.

Sub-Calculations: Processing Your Raw Data

Once your measurement fields are set up, it's worth understanding sub-calculations before you start pulling data in — because they can save you a lot of manual work later.

Sub-calculations are intermediate formulas that run automatically on top of your raw measurement fields. Instead of doing math manually each time you build a quote, you define the formula once and ProLine applies it every time a report is used.

A practical example: GAF QuickMeasure reports your total roof area in square feet (SF), but roofing materials are ordered by the square (1 square = 100 SF). Rather than manually converting every time, you can set up a sub-calculation that divides the Total Area by 100 — and that converted value is then available to use across all your price items automatically.

ProLine comes with four default sub-calculations out of the box: Total Square, Hip & Ridge Square, Starter Square, and Drip Edge. You can edit these or add your own.

Sub-calculations appear at the bottom of every measurement report and can be referenced in your price item quantity calculations — which is what makes quote generation so fast once everything is configured.

⚠️ Note: If you apply a waste factor inside a sub-calculation and on a price item that references it, ProLine will warn you to avoid accidentally stacking waste factors twice.

For the full setup guide, including how to write formulas and use tokens, see: Company Settings: Measurements – Sub-Calculations.

Native Integrations for Measurement Orders

ProLine currently supports five native integrations to simplify ordering measurements directly within the platform:

For EagleView, GAF QuickMeasure, RoofScope, and RidgeQuote — you can do both:

  • Place a new order directly from ProLine, setting pins and parameters.

  • Import pre-existing reports from your account.

For Hover, you can import an existing measurement report you've obtained separately on Hover's platform. Additionally, for GAF QuickMeasure, importing existing reports is free of charge, with no additional costs incurred.

⚠️ Important: Each integration requires you to map the provider's fields to your ProLine measurement fields during setup. If a measurement field from the provider doesn't exist in your ProLine account yet, you'll need to create it first in Company Settings: Measurements before it will appear as a mapping option.

Manual Entry

If you don't have an integration set up or simply need to enter measurements yourself, you can create a manual measurement report directly within any project.

To create a manual report:

  1. Open a project by clicking on it, and navigate to the Measure tab on the left side panel.

  2. Click New Report.

  3. Enter a name for the report (e.g. "Report 1") and click Save.

  4. Your report will be created with a Structure 1 already added. You'll see all of your configured measurement fields listed and ready for input.

  5. Enter the values for each field directly into the report.

  6. To add additional structures for the same property (e.g. a detached garage or shed), scroll to the bottom and click + Add Structure. Each structure can be quoted independently or together when creating a quote.

Notes:

  • You can rename or delete any structure using the edit and trash icons next to the structure name.

  • The report will display any sub-calculations (like Total Square or Drip Edge) automatically at the bottom of each structure, calculated from the values you enter.

  • Manual reports work exactly the same as imported or ordered reports when it comes to generating quotes.

CSV Import

If your measurement provider isn't one of the five native integrations but can export a CSV file, you can still bring that data into ProLine.

Important: CSV import must first be enabled through the Integrations page. See the full setup guide here: Integrations: Measurement (CSV Import).

Once enabled, the CSV icon will appear alongside your other measurement providers in the Measure tab of any project. From there, you can select and import your CSV file — the data will map to your ProLine measurement fields based on the mappings you configured during setup.

Note: CSV import supports single-structure reports only.

💡 Tip: If your CSV includes a field that doesn't exist in your ProLine account yet, add it in Company Settings: Measurements first so it becomes available for mapping.

Using Measurements for Quotes and Material Orders

Step 1 — Set up quantity calculations on your price items (one-time setup):

For measurements to drive quote quantities automatically, each price list item needs a quantity calculation configured. This is done in Company Settings → Price List — click the Price Default Calculation icon (first calculator icon from the left) on any price item to open the calculation editor. From there you can:

  • Select which measurement field or sub-calculation drives the quantity for that item (e.g. Total Square for shingles, Eaves for gutters).

  • Set a coverage value — how much area or length one unit of that item covers.

  • Optionally apply a waste factor and set a minimum quantity.

If you want more control over your calculations and don't want to be confined to ProLine's standard calculations, you can toggle on "Use Custom Formula." This will allow you to build your formula from scratch to calculate how you want it to.

⚠️ Important: Quantity calculations are configured at the price list level, but they will only work if the price item is included in the quote template you're using. Make sure the items you've set up calculations for are added to the relevant quote template — otherwise they won't appear on the quote and the calculations won't run.

For the full setup guide and default calculation examples, see Configuring Quantity Calculations.

Step 2 — Create your quote:

Once your price items calculations in the template you want to use are configured, the workflow is straightforward:

  1. When creating a new quote on a project level, select the measurement report structure you want to use in the Structure field before clicking Create.

  2. ProLine uses your measurement fields to automatically calculate quantities for each price item on the quote.

  3. Those quantities then flow through to your material and work orders — no re-entry needed.

The result: consistent, accurate numbers from the first measurement all the way to the job order.

Expanding Measurement Provider Options

If you'd like to see an integration with another measurement provider:

  • Submit your idea to ProLine's Ideas and Roadmap Board by clicking here.

  • If enough users vote for the integration, ProLine will consider building it.

Reminder: Even if an integration doesn't yet exist, as long as you can obtain a CSV file, you can import it into ProLine and continue your workflows without disruption.
