Our telematics system uses both the telematics device and your mobile phone to record your journey, with the two working together to give the greatest possible confidence in your journey data.
The device contains its own GPS and sensors, including accelerometers, which detect the start and end of a journey and record journey information. At the same time, your phone and the app record the journey data, with the device and app communicating with one another via Bluetooth. The information collected by both is then uploaded when connectivity is available.
For most policies, the device collects data on journey time, GPS location, speed and G-force. The app gives you a view of how you're driving and your mileage.
This means your journey data doesn't depend on a continuous mobile or internet connection to be recorded. Where connectivity is temporarily unavailable, the relevant data is retained and uploaded when connectivity becomes available.
If you have a pay-per-mile insurance policy, we only use your mileage data - it's about how many miles you drive, not how you drive them. Your app shows you your miles, journeys and monthly bills.
