Yes. Connecting your bank to Rent Butter is safe, and we never see or store your banking credentials.
How the connection works
We use Plaid, the same service that powers bank connections in apps like Venmo, Robinhood, and many others. When you log in, your username and password go directly to Plaid β Rent Butter never sees them.
Plaid then gives Rent Butter read-only access to your transaction history for the purpose of verifying your income. That's it.
What we can see
Recent transactions in the account you connected
Your account balance
The name on the account
What we cannot do
We cannot move money in or out of your account
We cannot see or store your bank login
We cannot make purchases or pay bills on your behalf
What happens after verification
The bank connection is one-time. Once we've verified your income, we don't have ongoing access to your bank. Your login was never stored, and Plaid doesn't keep checking your account for us.
