What documents do you accept for income verification?

A complete list of accepted income documents, organized by income type.

Here's what we accept for income verification, organized by income type. The closer your document matches its category, the faster verification goes.

For salaried or hourly jobs (W-2)

  • Recent pay stubs (most recent 2–3)

  • Last year's W-2

  • Most recent year's tax return

  • Offer letter (if you just started and don't have pay stubs yet)

For freelance or contractor work (1099)

  • Most recent 1099 form(s)

  • Last year's tax return (with Schedule C if you file as a sole proprietor)

  • Profit and loss statement

  • Bank statements showing client deposits

For self-employment or business ownership

  • Last year's tax return (with Schedule C, K-1, or the relevant business schedule)

  • Year-to-date profit and loss statement

  • Business bank statements

For government benefits

  • Benefit Verification Letter from the Social Security Administration

  • Recent benefit statement or award letter

  • Unemployment determination letter or recent benefit notice

  • VA benefits award letter

For retirement and investment income

  • 1099-R (pension or retirement distributions)

  • 1099-DIV (dividend income) or 1099-INT (interest income)

  • Recent brokerage or retirement account statements

  • Pension award letter

For other income types

  • Alimony or child support β€” court order plus bank statements showing deposits

  • Rental income β€” Schedule E from your tax return, lease agreements, or bank deposits showing rent payments received

  • Trust or family support β€” trust account statements or a signed letter from the person providing support
