If you're applying from outside the United States or are new to the country, you may not have an SSN/ITIN or a U.S. address yet. Here's how to handle each section of the application.
ID
You need a government-issued photo ID — a passport, driver's license, or state ID card. If you're outside the U.S., a passport from your country works.
If you don't have any of these, you'll need to obtain one before completing this step.
SSN or ITIN
If you've never been issued an SSN or ITIN, check the box on the application that says: "I certify that I have not been issued an SSN (Social Security Number) or ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number)." You can leave the field blank and continue.
Without an SSN or ITIN, some screening checks (like a credit history check) may not return results.
Address
The application requires a U.S. street address as your current address. If you don't yet have a U.S. address, contact the property manager you're applying through — they can let you know how to proceed.
Income
If you receive income, answer the income questions and upload any documents that show proof of income — pay stubs, tax forms, or bank statements.
Foreign banks and payroll providers aren't supported by our automated bank or payroll connections, so document upload is the right path for income from outside the United States.
Rental history
If you currently rent, enter your landlord's name, phone number, and the rest of the requested info.
If you own your home, enter "none" or your own name as the landlord, and the amount you pay each month if any.
