How to Enable Tips at Checkout

Offer the option to leave a tip at checkout in your RepeatMD app

Overview

Practices can now offer patients the option to leave a tip at checkout inside the RepeatMD app. Tips are collected as part of the in-app transaction, appear in your Shop Summary for reporting, and are paid out to your practice. Your practice is responsible for distributing tips to your team however you see fit.


Why it Matters

Tipping lets patients reward your team in the moment, with no extra work for your front desk. Tips are tracked automatically in Shop Summary, and when paired with Sales Associates, give you visibility into which staff members patients are tipping most.


Setting Up Tips

Once tipping is enabled for your practice, you can configure it from the Checkout tab inside App Builder.

  1. Go to App Builder → Checkout: Find the Checkout tab in your App Builder navigation. You'll see a Checkout Tips section at the top.

  2. Toggle on "Collect tips at checkout": Flip the toggle to enable tips for your patients at checkout. Changes save automatically.

  3. Choose your preset type: Select whether you want tip suggestions shown as percentages or fixed dollar amounts.

  4. Set your tip presets: Add the tip amounts you want displayed as one-tap options for patients. You can add or remove presets at any time.


Tip Preset Types

Percentage

e.g., 15% · 18% · 20%

Tip amount scales with the order total. Works well for practices where order sizes vary significantly.

Dollar Amount

e.g., $5 · $10 · $20

Flat tip options regardless of order size. Works well when you want predictable, simple choices for patients.

You can only use one preset type at a time, but you can update your selection and presets whenever you'd like.


Tips in Reporting

Tips collected at checkout appear in your Shop Summary report as a line item. This gives you visibility into total tips collected per transaction and across time periods.

Payout note: RepeatMD collects the tip with the transaction and passes it through to your practice minus the standard processing fee. How you distribute tips to your staff is entirely up to your team — RepeatMD does not manage or track internal tip distribution.


Connecting Tips to Staff with Sales Associates

If you want to track which staff member was involved in a tipped order, you can use the Sales Associates feature. When Sales Associates are set up, patients can select from a dropdown "Who helped you with this order?" at checkout — allowing them to attribute the purchase to a specific team member.

The Sales Associate linked to an order appears in your Shop Summary report alongside the transaction details.

Setting Up Sales Associates

Sales Associates are managed from the Staff Directory → Sales Associates tab in your Admin Portal. Any admin user with a Manager role or higher can create, edit, deactivate, and reactivate Sales Associates.

  • Sales Associates can be assigned at the location level

  • Sales Associates do not have access to the Admin Portal

  • A Sales Associate linked to an order can be found in Shop Summary reports

Sales Associates are not required to use tipping. Tips can be collected without any Sales Associate configuration. Sales Associates are an optional layer for practices that want to tie orders to specific staff members for performance tracking.

Can patients decline to leave a tip?

Yes. Tips are always optional at checkout — patients can select a preset, enter a custom amount, or skip tipping entirely.

How do I find how much in tips was collected?

Tips appear as a line item in your Shop Summary report. You can filter by date range to see totals for any period.

Does RepeatMD handle distributing tips to my staff?

No — tip amounts are passed through to your practice as part of your standard payouts. How you choose to distribute tips to your team is entirely your practice's decision.

Can I change my tip presets after going live?

Yes. You can update your preset type and amounts at any time from App Builder → Checkout. Changes take effect immediately.

Can I assign different tip settings to different locations?

Tip configuration is managed at the app level in App Builder. Reach out to support if you need location-specific guidance.
