Download the app during check-in (Patient App)

Learn how patients download your practice’s Patient App during an in-office check-in using a QR code or app store search.

Overview

When patients check in at your practice, they can sign up or log in via mobile browser and are prompted to download the native app for a better experience. After download and login, the app icon updates to your practice branding and patients can scan to check in for their appointment.

This article is for front-desk staff coaching patients through check-in. For new-patient sign-up details, see New patients: sign up and download your Patient App (Admin Panel).

Before You Start

  • Display your Internal QR code at the check-in area. See Use your RepeatMD QR codes (Admin Panel).

  • Patients search MyRepeat: Patient Rewards in the App Store or Google Play.

  • Before login, the app appears as Patient Rewards with a generic icon. After login, the icon updates to your practice branding.

Why It Matters

The native app provides a smoother experience than mobile web — faster navigation, better notifications (when available), and persistent login. Guiding patients to download during their first visit sets up long-term engagement with rewards and shop.

How It Works

Browser-first check-in: Patients can scan the QR code with their phone camera, sign up or log in via mobile browser, and see download banners at the top and bottom of the screen.

Download prompt: Banners link to the app store. After download, patients open the app and log in again with their phone number.

Icon update: Once logged in, the home-screen icon changes from the generic Patient Rewards icon to your practice’s branded icon.

Returning patients with accounts: If the patient already has an account, they select your practice (med spa) after login, land on the home page, and scan the QR code to check in.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Flow A: Scan QR code first (recommended)

  1. Ask the patient to open their phone camera and scan the Internal QR code at check-in.

  2. If not logged in, the patient enters their phone number and taps Log in or Sign up.

  3. The patient enters the verification code sent to their phone.

  4. Download banners appear at the top and bottom of the screen. Tap the link to open the app store.

  5. Download MyRepeat: Patient Rewards.

  6. Open the app from the app store or home screen.

  7. Log in again with the same phone number and verification code.

  8. The app icon updates to your practice branding.

  9. Scan the Internal QR code again to complete check-in.

Camera opens, scans to sign-in

If they are not logged in already or don't have an existing account, advise them to log in or sign up.

Verification of their account.

A banner will appear at the top and bottom of their phone screen prompting them to download the app for a better user experience.

The link will direct them to their app store. Prompt them to download your app.

Once downloaded, the user can select open in the App store or click into the app from their home screen.

If they click into the app from their home screen, the app will be called 'Patient Rewards' but the app icon won't change until they log into their account.

Have the patent repeat the log-in and verification process.

Once they are logged in, they can now scan to check in for their appointment.

Additionally, the app icon will update on their home screen to match your practice.

Flow B: Download app first

Use this flow when patients arrive from social media promotion or already know to download the app.

  1. Ask if the patient has MyRepeat: Patient Rewards or Patient Rewards on their phone.

  2. If not, have them search MyRepeat: Patient Rewards in the app store and download it.

  3. Open the app and enter their phone number. Tap Log in or Sign up.

  4. Enter the verification code.

  5. If no account exists yet, select Scan QR code in location.

  6. Scan the Internal QR code at your check-in area.

  7. Complete profile setup if prompted.

  8. The app icon updates to your practice branding. The patient is checked in.

Ask them if they have your Patient Rewards mobile app downloaded.

If they say no, ask them to search MyRepeat: Patient Rewards in their app store and download the app to their home screen.

Once the download is complete, ask the patient to click into the app.

Have them use their phone number to login or sign up.

Verification of their account

If they don't have an account already created, have them select the option to 'Scan QR code in location.

Best Practices and Pro Tips

  • Default to Flow A for first-time patients — QR scan is the fastest path to account creation and check-in.

  • Use Flow B when patients were told to download the app before arriving (social media, email).

  • Remind patients the app is called Patient Rewards on their home screen, even though they searched MyRepeat in the store.

  • If the icon does not update, the patient may be logged out or connected to a different practice’s account.

Common Mistakes and FAQs

Q: The app icon still shows a generic image. Why?

A: The patient is either logged out or logged into a different practice. Have them log in with the phone number associated with your practice.

Q: The patient downloaded the app but can’t check in.

A: They need to log in and scan the Internal QR code — not the External QR code.

Q: Can patients check in on mobile web without downloading?

A: Yes, but the native app provides a better experience. Download banners appear automatically on mobile browsers.

Q: What if the patient came from social media?

A: Use Flow B. Ask them to download the app, log in, then scan the Internal QR code at your location.
