Overview
Patients purchase treatments and packages in the Patient App and redeem them in your practice when they arrive for an appointment. Redemption confirms the service in the app, updates remaining quantities, and keeps your team’s records aligned with what was delivered.
This article is for practice owners, managers, and front-desk staff who guide patients through wallet redemption and troubleshoot quantity or check-in questions.
Before You Start
The patient must have purchased the treatment or package in the Patient App (or staff must confirm the purchase appears in their wallet).
Redemption requires scanning your practice internal QR code in the office.
Patients redeem from Wallet → Treatments, not the Account home screen.
For items with multiple units or quantities (for example, Botox units), the patient selects how many to redeem at this visit.
If the patient has not purchased any treatments yet, they can buy in the app first, then return to this flow.
Why It Matters
Prepaid wallet redemption keeps revenue recognized, inventory accurate, and front-desk workflows smooth. When your team knows the redemption steps, you can:
Prevent double redemption by confirming quantities before scanning.
Speed up checkout by directing patients to Wallet → Treatments at arrival.
Reduce check-in confusion by understanding when redemption also checks the patient in.
Find completed services quickly under See past treatments when balances are used up.
How It Works
Wallet storage: Purchased treatments and packages live in Wallet → Treatments until redeemed or fully used.
In-office QR redemption: The patient taps Redeem, selects quantity if applicable, and scans your internal QR code. Redemption is always completed in the practice.
Quantity tracking: When a patient holds multiple units of the same treatment or package item, they use the up and down arrows to choose how many to redeem at this appointment. Remaining quantity stays in the wallet for future visits.
After redemption: Redeemed quantities update immediately. When all units are used, the treatment moves to the bottom of the wallet under See past treatments.
Check-in interaction:
If the patient already checked in for today’s appointment, they do not need to scan again solely to redeem prepaid treatments or packages.
If the patient has not checked in, redeeming a treatment or package automatically checks them in. They do not need a separate check-in scan.
In-person purchases. If a patient buys a treatment in the office, it appears in their wallet once the purchase is complete. They can redeem on the same visit using the steps below.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Redeem a treatment or package
The patient opens the Patient App.
Tap Wallet (bottom-right).
Open the Treatments tab (or stay on Treatments if already there).
Find the treatment or package to redeem.
Tap Redeem (or Scan in office to redeem).
If the item has multiple units, use the up and down arrows to set how many to redeem at this visit.
Tap Scan now to open the camera.
Scan the practice internal QR code.
Confirm the redemption completes and remaining quantity updates in the wallet.
Find fully redeemed treatments
Go to Wallet → Treatments.
Scroll to See past treatments at the bottom of the list.
Open past items to review redemption history.
Best Practices and Pro Tips
Confirm quantity before scanning, especially for multi-unit treatments like injectables.
Use internal QR codes in treatment rooms and checkout areas. See How to use your RepeatMD QR codes.
Separate membership benefits from prepaid items. Monthly membership treatments use a different flow; link patients to the membership redemption article when needed.
If redemption fails, verify the patient is logged into the correct account and the purchase appears in Wallet → Treatments.
Train staff on auto check-in. Redeeming before check-in still counts as check-in for the day.
Common Mistakes and FAQs
Q: Does the patient redeem from the Account screen?
A: No. Redemption happens from Wallet → Treatments.
Q: Can a patient redeem part of a multi-unit purchase?
A: Yes. Use the quantity arrows to redeem only the units used at this appointment. The remainder stays in the wallet.
Q: What happens when all units are redeemed?
A: The treatment moves to See past treatments at the bottom of the wallet.
Q: Does redeeming check the patient in?
A: If they have not already checked in today, yes. Redemption automatically checks them in. If they already checked in, they do not need to scan again just to redeem.
Q: Can patients buy and redeem on the same visit?
A: Yes. Complete the in-app purchase first, then redeem from Wallet → Treatments.
Q: How is this different from membership monthly treatments?
A: This article covers prepaid purchases. Membership included monthly treatments use a choose → book → redeem flow. See Redeem an included monthly treatment (Patient App).
