How to Set Up Country Rules for Shipping Carriers in Returbo

Learn how to set up Country Rules in Returbo so each shipping carrier product is only used for the countries you choose plus how to rank carriers for automatic label generation.

How do I choose which countries a shipping carrier can be used for in Returbo?

If you work with multiple shipping carriers, you might not want every carrier and product available for every country. That's where Country Rules come in. This guide shows you how to set country-specific rules for each shipping carrier and product in Returbo, so returns are always routed to the right carrier for the right market.

This guide is for merchants who have already connected one or more shipping carriers in Returbo.

What are Country Rules?

Country Rules let you decide which countries a specific carrier product can be used for.

For example, you might only want to use PostNord Return for orders coming from Sweden. Once you set that rule, Returbo will only offer PostNord Return as an option for Swedish returns — not for any other country.

Since rules are set per product (not just per carrier), you have full control if a single carrier offers multiple services. Each product can have its own set of allowed countries.

Before you start

Keep a couple of things in mind:

  • The countries available to select are based on the shipping documentation provided by each carrier — not all countries will be available for every product.

  • Your contract with a carrier can also affect this. For example, with DHL Express, a country might show up as available to select, but if it isn't included in your contract, label generation will fail for that country. If this happens, reach out to your carrier's sales contact to have the market added to your contract.

How to activate Country Rules

  1. Go to Returbo app > Settings > Integrations.

  2. Find the shipping carrier and product you want to set rules for.

  3. Scroll down to Country Rules.

  4. Select Enable this feature.

  5. Click Add market.

  6. Choose the countries you want this carrier product to be available for. You can:

    • Search for individual countries, or

    • Select an entire continent at once.

  7. Click Save.

  8. Once you've finished setting up your rules, click Save updated info to confirm everything.

That's it — this carrier product will now only be used for the countries you selected.

Setting rules for more carriers or products

Want to add rules to another carrier product? No problem:

  1. Click Add market again.

  2. Use the dropdown in the top-left corner to select the next carrier product you want to configure.

  3. Repeat the steps above, then Save and Save updated info once you're done.

Ranking carriers when using automatic label generation

If you have automatic label generation turned on and several carrier products are available for the same country, you can tell Returbo which one to try first.

  1. Go to Returbo app > Settings > Integrations.

  2. Scroll to the Shipping carriers ranking section (the third box down).

  3. Rank your carrier products in the order you'd like Returbo to try them.

If your top-ranked carrier product can't be used — for example, due to a country rule — Returbo will automatically move on to the next one in your ranking.
